First righty he's started against in a long time. I think JBJ is ready and will hit. 500+ AB in the bigs = .190 average. How long do you wait? I mean he's gotten almost no burn this year. Yesterday he missed a HR by a foot and walked twice, and he just hit a rocket right at the CF. He put the ball in play three times today. All positive things. He should get plenty of PT for the remainder of the year, even when Betts is back. I think he and Castillo could semi-platoon RF and also you can throw Hanley in the DH spot vs some LHP going forward. That would get both JBJ and Castillo ABs. Castillo needs a mechanical adjustment though. Nobody can survive with GB tendencies like his.

Tazawa has been horrible lately. That's what happens when you use him for meaningless innings.

Not that it matters, but every time it seems like when the game is on the line Tazawa blows it. Can he ever be consistent?

A good example is Breslow, after 2013 and the extra innings in the postseason it has taken its toll.

....... Castillo needs a mechanical adjustment though. Nobody can survive with GB tendencies like his. The ground ball HR he hit the other night was awesome Ok. He's not going to hit many of those when he hits 60% of his balls on the ground. He hits the ball hard, but he needs to elevate the ball more often.

He was getting by on smoke and mirrors.

Might've been a decent place to PH D'Aza, if he wasn't already put into the game as a PR last inning.

The ground ball HR he hit the other night was awesome Ok. He's not going to hit many of those when he hits 60% of his balls on the ground. He hits the ball hard, but he needs to elevate the ball more often. IMO too big a swing has him often late to the ball with a lot of fouls to the right and an occasional base hit to right. He is compelled to commit earlier and that renders him (along with poor strike-zone judgment) very vulnerable to off-speed particularly moving away. Shorten the swing, particularly later in the count so he can wait a bit longer...otherwise he will be a liability occasionally running into one.

Outside of tawaza do we have another 8th inning option?
The guy is definitely gassed. His stuff has very little bite, compared to earlier in the year.

The bullpen is the achilles heel of this team.

To say that this team has an "Achilles heel" would imply that they are generally good otherwise.

Travis Shaw: The internal 3B option we didn't know that we had in the organization. Speak for yourself. We're getting to the Brock Holt is probably better category of possible third basemen. Hm... I have another submission in that category. Let's say the Red Sox decide to spend big money on two pitchers but want to stay under the luxury tax limit. Would you consider a LHB, projected by Steamer to hit 99 wRC+, who is below average defensively at 3B but only makes the league minimum? The guy I'm talking about: Travis Shaw
