Of course they promote him when he starts to kind of cool off. But that must indicate that this was a set date.

AB getting Promoted today . No I won't tell you my source Does anyone have a guess on which game he will likely play in Portland first? I live close to Portland and was guessing Tuesday, so I thought I might grab some tickets. Does that sound too soon or likely?

This should also give a motivational lift to Moncada, Longhi and the rest of the Salem juggernaught.

Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to be on the attack. It should have been obvious he wasn't going to get promoted before today's game. Not surprisingly totheights tweeted it out like it was his info. After mocking brisox. Fraud. Thanks for having my back bury , but I don't care the info is just for guys on this board , some will believe me others won't , they can have all the credit. Whole thing feels silly anyway, who cares who said it first . I just wanted to give everyone something to get excited about outside of 3 or 4 guys it has not been much fun following the system so far this year As for the idea that he will skip AAA, there is 0.0% chance of that happening. They want to build value for Rusney and Swihart before they would even consider this , if he rakes in AA which we all agree is the most difficult jump he will still have to show 120+ at bats of success . Then maybe we see him in AAA when we release Brentz who gets picked up by Oakland and hits 30 hrs . ;-)

How long do people think Benintendi will be in Portland? Im asking mainly because I have family up there and may want to plan a trip up.

As for the idea that he will skip AAA, there is 0.0% chance of that happening. I am surprised to see so many otherwise sober posters present the idea of Benintendi going from AA straight to the bigs, before he even plays one game at AA. Really? The Benintendi Kool-aid is just that good?. The most wildly optimistic projection might be a a promotion to AAA in late July, then a September call-up. But sheesh, even that is fantastical. They have to look at service time issues, and, hyperbole aside, the reality is that a ok-ish LF retread picked up on trade is probably going to help more this year than Benintendi.

My guess is June and July, then Aug in Pawtucket, a little more finishing in AAA next year, before Fenway in June 2017. But I will not reimburse you for nonrefundable airline tickets (doesn't seeing family make the trip worthwhile by itself?)

As far as countermoves, most likely they'll just activate Guzman or Mesa. Doubt this is going to be a chain promotion. This is Benintendi forcing their hand, not necessarily "the plan" like you'd see with a chain move.

He's also the only third baseman on the team though, as I don't envision they'll play Vinicio there more than every once in a while. Ooh, I know where they could find another guy to play third!

I'd be surprised if Benintendi skips AAA but it's not like posters here are the only people suggesting it. How many times have we read the Conforto track comparisons for Benintendi from various media members? Conforto skipped AAA, and Benintendi is 45 games away from matching Conforto's minor league total. Benintendi has been more impressive than Conforto was from a production standpoint, but the Mets have an entirely different situation and philosophy. He'd have to dominate in Portland for ~50 games, but if he lights it up and LF becomes a black hole for the big club most of us will probably be calling for it (and again, this assumes he continues to mash for the next two months in AA). If he has any type of adjustment period in Portland it'll be ruled out. It's a lot to ask of any prospect but it's becoming hard to bet against this guy.

A lot has to happen for him to see Fenway this year. He has to mash in AA (1000 OPS, more BB than K), basically skip AAA, and the Red Sox will have to look at LF in Boston and say that Brock Holt and Chris Young are doing so poorly that they are going to bench them and put a 22 year old into a pennant race. And they'll have to make room on the 40-man roster sooner than probably makes sense.
Here's hoping he makes it, though and they can put out the Betts (RF), Benintendi (LF), Bradley (CF), Bogaerts (SS), Brock (3B), Blake (C), Brentz (1B), Big (DH) lineup for the final game of the season.

I don't think it's nearly as unlikely as you make it sound. He has to rake, yes, and that's no guarantee, but if he does, I'd say it's more probable than not that he gets a shot. Brock Holt should be their utility guy and Chris Young can still get his ABs against LHP. And the whole "putting a 22 year old in a pennant race" thing is a really weak argument (it really hurt Bogaerts/Ellsbury/etc), and not something I think the Red Sox would be concerned about at all.

True, the age argument is pretty weak, but when Ellsbury was brought up it was his second full season in the minors and he started the year in AA. Ditto Bogaerts starting the year in AA. I suppose it's a new front office and there are always firsts, but when is the last time the Red Sox had a player go from Hi-A to Boston in the same season? Maybe there just hasn't been someone with Benintendi's profile to push like that?
I'm rooting for it and the roster construction definitely looks lot tidier with Rutledge going down, Holt as a super utility and Young just batting against lefties with Benintendi getting the majority of the playing time in LF.

When DD came to Boston he has three names on his list Kimbral, Price and Chris Young. CY has taken a bit to come around but he will face every LH hitter this year and will produce at a high level . Brock is a great guy to have on the team and he has great value to so many teams if they need the super Ute guy. Swihart could cover in left or Marco Hernandez who is tearing up AAA could play a bit if needed , we are hardly in a state of concern with our outfield
