Did I miss something? Is it Drew now? Or does Farrell just call people things regardless of their desire. I'm sure this isn't the first time in his life that Andrew Benintendi was called Drew. I am surprised, with the Red Sox historical nomenclature, that he isn't called "Andy" or "Benny."

Only Benintendi returned from the other side of the fence.

Got the Orioles feed during that 2 game stint & Gary Thorne called him Benedetti for 2 games. Never corrected it.

People have nicknames? Wow, I didn't know that.
OR maybe I did and was indicating that it was the first time I'd heard it used (but again, chose not to be so literal about it).
PS I'd also add that Drew isn't quite like adding a y on to someone's name to make it catchy.

Is this the Cespedes curse?
Hanley, you never belonged there, but meet the wall
Castillo, my countryman, sorry you can't hit and are banished to AAA forever
Holt, the scoreboard is not a place for your head, silly boy
Young, should have had more water, let's tweak that hammy real tight
Swihart, you, should have watched Hanley closer
Benintendi, dancing in spikes never produces good results
Brentz, ah, you weren't worth the effort
Methinks Yeonis put some kind of curse on the position as he departed.

Here's hoping it's just a minor injury. It would be a shame to lose Benny for the stretch run.

That was a very, very ugly twist to his knee.

I would call it the Jonny Gomes curse myself. These other guys lack the energetic energy necessary to hold down the position.

My gf who is from Bangor called BS on that. Eh, if he's pronounce the name wrong each time that means a producer should be correcting him. Announcers have to learn hundreds of players name and are expected to give analysis that is home-team centric. Butchering a rookie's name on the opposing team isn't really a cardinal sin.

It happens, if I remember correctly, Frank Catalanotto's name was pronounced incorrectly by the Red Sox announcers for a while.

I don't think it's a big deal, but I'm not buying the excuse that Gary Thorne went to college in Maine and stayed there awhile so he can't pronounce unusual names. He also did NHL hockey and the Olympics. He's been announcing sports for 40 years all over the world.

Joe Castiglione once went almost a whole series calling Paul Sorrento "Sorrentino" before he finally was corrected. Just one of those things.

Not many non WAsP names in the Bangor area. Because I get the Orioles feed (all year) I watch several games. Gary Thorne is a great announcer that is very fair to both sides. Even talks up the players on other teams. Mike Bordick is awful though, like laughing when Price has a bad game, or saying "Eduardo Rodriguez has chronic leg problems". Jim Palmer is also very good.

Not to get the announcer tangent fueled up again, but Remy and Orsillo pronounced Chone Figgins phonetically for like the first 2 years of his career before they realized it was actually pronounced Sean/Shaun.

“@brianmacp: Farrell: Red Sox doctors are still reviewing the Benintendi MRI. ”Too early to tell“ if the injury is season-ending.”

Really begging for a Shaw hot streak to end the year now. Or even another Holt BABIP streak.

I had a few knee op's (as many of us on this forum) MCL & ACL tears from softball/basketball respectively. Both times I walked (limped) off the field/court. Because he had to be carried off scares me a bit. Also, he didn't even realize he turned his ankle? With the knee bending "outward" wouldn't that be the LCL?

Yeah, that's what I thought, LCL (often there's an associated ACL tear). On the video though, in slo-mo, it didn't look as bad as when I'd first watched. He straight-legged it, but it didn't look like it completely buckled and bent. If he escapes with no tear, they'll really have dodged a bullet, though the LCL can be troublesome long-term.

I know it's wishful thinking, but if it is an LCL sprain it could be (near best-case) a 3 week recovery. That would be fantastic.

Rusney Castillo is hitting .366/.425/.521 in AAA in August, just saying...
