With the official AB DL. It's either Brentz, LaMarre, or Rusney. I know it would be a pain in the rear for the Org to bring up Rusney, just think it may be time. His defense alone would at least keep the continuity of stellar OF defense.

His defense alone would at least keep the continuity of stellar OF defense. They called up Hernandez, and they could just have Holt fill in more at LF. It's only a week until roster expansion, so I wouldn't assume that they'll call up an outfielder before then.

Probably won't happen - he's probably easier to trade if he's not on the 40-man - but you wonder what they're going to do with him.

Is there any chance anyone wants to trade for him without him showing some capability to hit at all at the big league level? At this stage there wouldn't even seem to be much value for anyone even if we paid his entire salary

I believe tomorrow will be the first time Andrew Benintendi will miss consecutive games as a professional since July 11-14, 2015, with the Lowell Spinners.

Peter Abraham Tweeted that Benintendi is walking around slowly wearing a compression sleeve over his knee. That sound somewhat hopeful. One would think the Sox would want him on crutches or with some sort of bulky brace if they knew for sure it was major.

Amazing how all the air went out of our offense when the rookie got hurt.
The pitching staff had upped their game and our offense went into a benintendi injury deep freeze.

Unless they have information that Ortiz will come back next year ("I wanted to retire but the injuries left a bad taste in my mouth. I love these guys and want to be part of it") I'd call up Castillo and Moncada tomorrow. I mean if they are pulling out all the stops (trading Espinoza) for Big Pappi then they need to pull out all the stops. Or they can wait for a "new" Sandoval, Carson Smith, and the youngsters next year.

Actually the offense has not been right for awhile. Mainly JBJ and Bogaerts. Which is a big piece. A real good time for them both to snap out of their funk. They have both shown the ability to go into long term streaks where they kill the ball. Realistically, if it were not for Ortiz leaving, next year would be ground zero for the Sox.

I know it's wishful thinking, but if it is an LCL sprain it could be (near best-case) a 3 week recovery. That would be fantastic. Yeah, but the risk is that it's a partial tear, which almost assuredly wouldn't show up on MRI (an idiosyncrasy of MRI for LCL). Plus, even a moderate sprain or mild tear can cause stability issues. I'm wondering if the lack of an update is because the MRI ruled out complete LCL tear and ACL tear, but showed a bad sprain of the LCL, and they don't know the extent of the injury. That said, if he's out even a month, it's not good, but could be much worse.

Or they can wait for a "new" Sandoval, Carson Smith, and the youngsters next year. They're certainly not going bring anyone up 5 days before the roster expansion. And as you mentioned, the biggest issue right now is that Xander and JBJ have been in bad slumps. Shaw/Hill, too, but the offense can survive that. But with JBJ and Xander both in a funk, that's crippling. Castillo and Moncada won't fix that.

This is from a few days ago, but should JBJ really be lumped in with Xander?
Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats Aug 21
Bradley "needs to get going." .865 OPS on the trip, .125 babip, with an average exit velocity of 95. Hit the ball 91, 97, 101 today.

He's striking out 30% of the time in August. Something isn't right with him still, but I agree he's not as bad as Bogaerts is at the plate right now.

I don't know why, but I'm starting to feel very optimistic about AB's knee. More updates are expected later today but I think he comes back before the end of the season.

I still don't think he comes up, but it's possible.
