Agent Alan Nero believes there will be a ripe market for Korean first baseman Byung-ho Park. “We’re just preparing for the process right now,” Nero said. “We believe there’s going to be a lot of interest as there was with [Jung Ho] Kang. Major league teams certainly covet right-handed power.” The Red Sox have been scouting the Nexen Heroes star for most of the season and Cafardo suggests that they could platoon him with left-handed-batter Travis Shaw. Even though Park could carry a notable price tag via the posting system, that could be cheaper for the Sox than going after the likes of Chris Davis or Justin Morneau on the open market.

It would mean Hanley in LF Assuming he's still around. I don't know much about the player, but I don't think he'd sign here to platoon if he's really a big ticket type. The posting rules change so much I'm not sure if still has a choice or not.

Mlbtr There was a famous writer of dirt-cheap science fiction and horror paperbacks named R. Lionel Fanthorpe, who was paid by the word and would write a novel every week or two under a variety of pseudonyms, dictating them and having multiple family members type them up. After a while, he began to suspect that his publishers so trusted his talent to turn out perfectly mediocre material (actually startling good for novels dictated off the top of a 22-year old guy's head) that they were no longer reading his manuscripts. Paid by the word, eh? He started writing stuff like this: (A friend claims to have found the precise edition of the thesaurus he was apparently using.) I sometimes wonder whether Cafardo is pulling a Fanthorpe. He suspects the Globe sports editor no longer reads his Sunday column, so each Sunday he gleefully tries to sneak something idiotic into print just to make his boss look bad. It seems more credible that the alternative hypothesis, which is that he actually thinks singing Park as a FA and then giving two-thirds of the 1B PT to Travis Shaw is a good idea that the Sox might be pursuing.

65+ power bat. showing great pull power and above average oppo power. his swing fits well with fenway park. will strike out a lot. solid glove at 1B. 50 runner, which is pretty good for his position.

I don't know if it's just the poor quality of the .gif but I've never seen someone do a swing/bat-flip in one continuous motion like that.

That bat flip flashes double plus for sure.
He'd definitely be an intriguing option, particularly in a platoon with Shaw. Definitely wouldn't hate it

Definitely wouldn't hate it I'd hate them to spend all that money on a guy getting 200 ABs platooning with Shaw. On the other hand, if they can dump Hanley somehow and had money available to sign Park to play 1b full-time, I'd be very intrigued too.

Doesn't have to be a platoon. Just call Shaw a backup, give him a shot once an injury happens at 1B/3B or if Park doesn't pan out. Opportunities will present themselves and he'd get a shot to get regular playing time again. You can't count on him to be a quality starter based off of 45 games after a MiLB career like Shaw's.

I think it was Bowden and Duquett on MLB radio yesterday saying if scouts think his tools vs top international pitching (95+ MPH/breaking balls) are similar to Kangs a posting fee would be in the $12-15 million range and then 12-15 a year on a five year deal.

If they can get by with a Shaw-Hanley platoon next season, and the other Travis shows some power in AAA, the Sox would be better served with a Travis/Travis split going forward with Hanley moving to DH after Papi's retirement. Certainly would be a cheaper alternative to what it would cost to take a chance that Park can hit ML pitching.

he needs to learn from Ortiz, to finish his swing in a pose, so that the photographers have an extra split-second to capture the pivotal HR. You don't make the headlines unless the press has a picture of the event, and no matter how critical the hit was, flipping the bat might mean that there is not a good photo.

Yes, indeed. Well worth watching.
What is interesting here in the video that you attached is the fact that he pulled, hit straight over cf, and hit opposite field. The other thing is he can hit like that against right-handers in the video, imagine what he can do against lefties (I don't have the left/right splits).
I cant speak Korean of course, but the other thing I noticed if you squint in the bottom left corner, those appear to be the dates of the bombs (a lot in late April, early May), so he can hit them in bunches!
Glad to hear the Sox are at least scouting him....

I have no sense on how skills from that league translate to MLB. Kang had more than 40HRs and has been good, but no where near that good.

If I told you though that he would be putting up a .288/.365/.459 line through 395 PA with solid base running and defense, would that be of interest to you?
