I don't think the reported posting fee is high enough to have ruled out any of the small market teams.

The Cardinals DID make a bid for him per @robrains Makes sense. Matt Adams is like the WMB of 1B.

I thought the O's would wind up with him, but I can see the Cards or less likely I could even see Oakland winding up with him. If Hanley Ramirez and his huge contract wasn't still on the team, I'd think the Sox would go after him pretty hard, but given that, well it would be an interesting explanation from DDO if they went in that direction.

Some took this tweet to imply that the Sox won the bid despite it not saying that. Then there's this... Jeff Passan @jeffpassan Taking it one step further: Source says Red Sox are not the team with winning Byung-Ho Park bid, plan to stick with Hanley Ramirez at 1B

Probably the right move. Adding Park would have complicated things. I don't really like the Hanley to 1B experiment, but unless they can move him they have little choice. Better off spending all the resources on the rotation and bullpen right now.

Pittsburgh makes the most sense given the success and value Kang brought to the team before he was injured. This is the right kind of splurge for a small market team. An inefficiency in the market if you will. They also have soured on Pedro Alvarez for a while now.

Not sure why anyone (inside or outside the organization) is continuing to pretend to believe the Ramirez-at-first fantasy. They believe it because they're going to start him at 1b. They're not going to be able to dump his salary on another team. They don't want to pay 80% of his salary for him to mash the ball elsewhere. They're not going to be able to DH him. They're not going to be dumb enough to stick him in LF anymore. They have no choice but to play him at 1b. There's a big likelihood he will be awful and Shaw will wind up at 1b - if he isn't needed at 3b. There's a chance Sam Travis ends the year at 1b for the Sox. If the Sox really had zero intent of playing him at 1b, they would have blown everybody away for Park, who I now guess will be headed to Pittsburgh (process of elimination?).

It's too bad Hanley won't get off his *** and go play some winter ball and learn first. I mean who does he think he is to catch on at spring training? What happen to this guy ? And Papi co-signed on this guy last off season? Talk about bait and switch. There must of been talk about this guy taking over DH and Papi has no interest in retiring. This whole situation was not thought out properly. I very surprised looking back . Hanley really fooled this FO. I hope he is happy He is ONE of the. Reasons Ben lost his job. Disgraceful. I hope everyone knows he isn't playing first for this team unless Papi gets hurt they have to give him away. He isn't gonna dig out balls,he could barley bend over on ground balls ,he is so stiff. Hanley fooled me also. But the difference is I gave up on him and I knew he was killing the Sox in Left.

What exactly did Passan mean by the "working agreement" tweet?

What exactly did Passan mean by the "working agreement" tweet? The Red Sox and Nexen heroes have had a "working agreement" or what they call "a strategic partnership" for a few years now. It basically boils down to a mentorship, or consulting. Almost a big brother program haha. Basically Nexen thinks the Sox are top dawgs when it comes to running a farm system, player development/scouting and using analytics, so, as a relatively new franchise in the KBO, Nexen enlisted their help. From Boston's side, they're probably given money, but more importantly a closer insight into a potentially underutilized market of the KBO. Boston surely has an inside track on lots of KBO players, as they're probably given access to Nexen's scouting reports, video, etc.
