He's missed two straight starts with a tight calf, although it's not believed to be serious. " Funny that my thoughts on De Aza starting are that he a) shouldn't be starting, and b) since he is, he should be hitting fifth over Holt.

It was even worse when Farrell was managing. Lovullo does some of the same stuff but he does it less often at least.

For as good as the results have been for Kelly over the last 5 starts, I don't think the peripherals match. His LOB% for his last 5 starts is 91.2% which is unsustainable and his K-BB% is 9.1 which isn't great.
His ERA was 1.69, but his xFIP has been only slightly lower than it has been all season at 4.04. It seems that he's getting as lucky now as he was unlucky earlier.

Syndergaard has a good-looking swing for a pitcher. That wasn't a fluke hit.

I was hoping we could avoid a Joe West show this series. How is he still an umpire?

Don n Jerry stating that those pitches every one outside aren't strikes (well whoopie)... when Ortiz gets up there those same pitches are called strikes on him EVERY time. Just saying

Ortiz makes THAT catch after fumbling the pickup attempt?

Did Miley really just make that play? I'm still laughing in disbelief.

Miley has been getting smacked around all game, just pretty much right at people. He was bound to have at least one big inning. I think he's an obvious candidate to not be in the rotation next year. He just kind of is what he is. 6-7 IP, 4 ER. Would rather have Johnson or Owens being that guy than Miley. Edit: I am also absolutely sick and tired of his baby-like tantrums in the dugout after being pulled from the game. Suck it up, meat.

I can not stand it when we get runs and the next inning we give it back. Speaking of Miley next year we have enough lefties ,I hope we move him this offseason. Not give him away but get something. I rather commit the spots to E-Rod,Owens and Johnson.

Owens and Johnson have to do a lot more to take over for Miley.

Kids flying in the field and the bases...what a wonderful sight! Yeah, it's a win-win. The youngsters did their thing again, now the pen can come in and blow it to help preserve our protected-pick status.

Robbie Ross Jr.: The best post-ASG reliever on the 2015 Red Sox.
Seriously, while Breslow and Ogando have to go, I wouldn't mind seeing Ross back with the team next year.

Sure, but a 4.04 xFIP, especially with Fenway as your home park, is pretty solid-- slightly above league-average (AL average starter ERA is 4.11 this year). Kelly is not one to go deep into games, which hurts his value some, but a league average (or slightly below-average) guy is pretty great as your 6th or 7th starter, and he might be more valuable in that role than he would be as a reliever.
