So how will the rotation work out now that Kelly is shut down and Eddie and Hank are approaching inning limits? I might have missed it, but is there some reason Escobar doesn't seem to be a consideration?

He should only make 2 more starts so he'll get to, what, 180 tops? Rodriguez only pitched 120 last year, so now that he's at 158, it's more of a concern.

I'd like to see Escobar, bullpen days or bring Wakefield out of retirement.
But really it kind of has to be Escobar; the 40 man is full and there is no one else on the roster unless they take Buchholz off the DL (lol).

Wright's concussion must be really, really severe. I haven't read anything about it. What crappy luck.

I would assume the reason game 3 is TBD is because they don't yet know whether Wright will be able to go, and that it will be Rich Hill if it's not Wright. But I haven't really been keeping up on news so might be way off base.

Hill's listed as starter for Sunday per ESPN.

espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/13672638/boston-red-sox-pitcher-joe-kelly-shut-remainder-seasonMy guess is they're just trying to figure out when said bullpen game would come. 17 in a row starting tomorrow. Hill's listed as starter for Sunday per ESPN. That doesn't really mean anything. Pretty sure they just project out the current rotation. That said, probably will be Hill. I'd bet it's something like: Porcello/Miley/Hill/Rodriguez/Owens/Porcello/Bullpen game/Miley/Hill/Owens/Porcello/Rodriguez/Miley/Hill/bullpen game/Porcello/Owens. Limits Rodriguez to two more starts, gives everyone else some breathing room. Even if Wright turns a corner, he's been out for so long (last pitched August 11, believe it or not) that I can't see them ramping him back up to start that quickly. At best he can give you 2 or 3 out of the bullpen at a pop.

My guess is Owens is good to go but only one more start for Erod. Asumming Kelly is done that leaves Miley and Porcello so you can probably pencil in Hill. Maybe Clay gets a 3 Inning start down the stretch. Only other real options would be Escabar or Barnes. It real amazing how fast starting pitching can become depleted. CANT HAVE to much starting pitching. This is amplified with injury prone and younger pitchers.

Looking forward to seeing how Mookie Betts handles right field. I doubt he will have any problems at all, but it is significant because I think the brass prefers Jackie Bradley Jr in center. Hopefully they will leave Mookie in right for the remainder of the season. It is especially important that he plays right at Fenway over the remaining home games.
I really like what I've seen of Rusney Castillo in left. He has been a weapon at Fenway.
Now he we can just get Bradley back to hitting some to finish the season!

Hill's listed as starter for Sunday per ESPN. And we all know how well ESPN researches Boston area material. Always First; Sometimes inaccurate but Never in Doubt.

There's been various media reporting that the team wants to manage Owens' workload down the stretch, but calling it an innings limit per se might be inaccurate.

Yeah, and it actually looks like it might be 3 starts now, with Kelly going down. The idea is probably more that they'll give him more than 4 days between starts by utilizing bullpen days, as they've said.

Truly bad luck for Johnson having that injury. He could have gotten a good tryout.

Yes, Johnson AND Wright could have gained alot of IP and given Dave a good look. Still hope the will bring up Escobar for the same reason.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Marrero in there tonight. Dave needs information to formulate the 2016 bench and trades. Rutledge, Marrero, Shaw. Too bad for Brentz. I guess Marco starts in AAA. Marrero will be in the majors next year somewhere with that glove, speed, growing versatility (iB, 2B, 3B, SS) and at least league average bat. With Brockstar an excellent OF, perhaps Holt, Shaw, Marrero, Hanigan would be better than average?

I wouldn't call Marrero a league-average bat. He hit .256/.316/.344 in AAA this year, and scouts have long questioned whether he'd hit enough to make him even a second-division starter. He seems like a utility-player-type to me (which shouldn't be taken as an insult; those guys are super valuable).

infuriating defense tonight. Two botch double plays by Holt. Then the rest wasn't pretty either.
The Red Sox must lead the league with wild pitches, which lead to 2 more runs.

Watching the games of Porcello, Rutledge, Holt, Rusney, JBJ, Mookie, Papi, we have to assume it is am anomaly of some kind which won't be repeated across such a brpad spectrum.

So this staff just doesn't like to pitch with a lead.
