You don't need a subscription to read the list. Nothing earth-shattering - it more or less tracks with what we have here, save flips at 3-4 and 9-10.
1. Yoan Moncada, 2b 2. Rafael Devers, 3b 3. Andrew Benintendi, of 4. Anderson Espinoza, rhp 5. Michael Kopech, rhp 6. Brian Johnson, lhp 7. Sam Travis, 1b 8. Deven Marrero, ss 9. Luis Alexander Basabe, of 10. Michael Chavis, 3b
I'll add that pre-trade, based on what Alex has written in the Globe, his rankings were:
1. Yoan Moncada, 2b 2. Rafael Devers, 3b 3. Andrew Benintendi, of 4. Anderson Espinoza, rhp 5. Javier Guerra, ss 6. Michael Kopech, rhp 7. Manuel Margot, of 8. Brian Johnson, lhp 9. Sam Travis, 1b 10. Deven Marrero, ss 11. Luis Alexander Basabe, of 12. Logan Allen, lhp 13. Michael Chavis, 3b

Supposed to be working on something more important

I'm skipping over stuff we know, like Devers has the tools to play 3B, Benintendi's bat, Neo's FB, Kopech lacks command.
Moncada: his level swing plane created hard liners to the gaps instead of loft ... might profile more as a standout two-hole hitter than a middle-of-the-order threat ... power projection ranges from average to plus ... bigger baserunning and defensive upside than anticipated ... made some spectacular plays at second base ... the athleticism to move nearly anywhere but shortstop Devers: few doubt he will build on that total [11 HR] ... could struggle with weight [and have to] move to first ... surprises evaluators with his athleticism and baserunning ability. Bentinendi: Many view him as the system’s top prospect ... can be at least an average center field defender ... and be a starting outfielder in Boston by the end of 2017 Espinoza: curveball and changeup grade as big league average now, with plenty of projection for improved command ... throws so hard at such a young age and with such a slight build [that it] raises questions about whether he can remain healthy ... could reach the big leagues by the time he turns 20 in 2018—or perhaps sooner Kopech: “a mega-special fastball” ... some believe he’d be better off working with a true slider or even a cutter [rather than his curve] ... during his suspension he made strides with [his changeup]

One thing that surprises me, that I'll ask Alex about, is the Benintendi writeup. I'm stunned that he could be viewed as top prospect in this system.
Sigh... TLG, come in and take your bow, I guess.

If you're the type who doesn't care much about a track record once you get past 100 games, then I could see you believing Benintendi is our best prospect. I'm not in that camp, and the majority of people wouldn't be, but it's feasible. Strictly looking at this past season, he was a monster in every offensive aspect of the game.

His track record goes back to college, but it was just the one breakout year.

Devers was both the best power bar and best batting average bat. Sounds like a special bat there...

Espinoza's agent is out of control. I love it. Also, Alex used the word prestidigitation because he's Alex Speier.

Agreed with this sentiment. Even the most careful reporters/analysts/fans are not safe from the allure of recency bias. I'm a massive fan of Benintendi, but in terms of age advancement... 18 year old Devers in the SAL: .288/.333/.443 (.776 OPS), .156 ISO, 3.50 K/BB ratio 19 year old Benintendi in the SEC: .276/.368/.333 (.701 OPS), .058 ISO, 0.83 K/BB ratio I know your point and others points were not about Devers, but it seems crazy to consider Benintendi the best in the system. Maybe he really is that good. But let's wait and see until he is challenged a bit more.

The top 4 in he system is so ridiculously good it's hard to comprehend. I'm not so sure we fully appreciate how rare and difficult it is to have this top 4.

I'm guessing the sources who considered Benintendi the system's best prospect were down on Devers and Moncada relative to others as well. I personally think that's kind of insane. I look forward to picking Alex's brain about this and other things on the podcast. Frankly, while we're all here, anyone got anything they want us to talk with him about?

Would love to hear if Alex has heard anything about the newest crop of sub-$300K international signings (e.g., any names to watch). That and what he's hearing on roster assignments.

The 1995-1997 group ranked well, led by Nomar, Trot, and Suppan. If the BA staffers are as high on those four as Speier's chat and writeups were, they could be better, certainly. 4 top 30 prospects maybe?

The 2008 group is closer, but these are the BA top 100 ranks.. BA top 100 2008 4. Clay Buchholz 13 Jacoby Ellsbury 40 Lars Anderson 64 Justin Masterson It will be interesting to see where these four fall in comparison. My guess is it is better.

I'm curious about the disparity between where he would have ranked Guerra and the SAL Top 10 prospects that had Guerra ranked higher than Devers. Is his opinion that much different than the group think ?

Top 5 in Moncada, top 15 with Devers and the other two both top 30... I guess the other aspect of it is two fold. They all have all-star ceilings and none are expected to graduate. What the hell happens if the four of them all have strong years and are a year closer? Has one team ever had 4 top 10 prospects? Kidding... Sorta

June 16, 2005 1 Hanley Ramirez 2 Jonathan Papelbon 3 Dustin Pedroia 4 Anibal Sanchez 5 Jon Lester ... That 2005 group is complete hindsight... You may feel that way, but I don't. That group of players was one of the reasons why I started following this site. Ramirez was very highly thought of. He scared Edgar Renteria who realized quickly that the kid was better than he was. It was no surprise he was the centerpiece of the Miami trade. Pedroia was acknowledged even then as a player with tremendous hand-eye coordination who could swing very hard and still make solid contact. Sanchez was a personal favorite out of the pitchers and he looked destined for a good career in the majors, which he's had. People often neglect to mention that he was another piece in Marlins' trade. That was a really good group of players, and most of us knew it even then.

Norm look at where those guys where ranked or not at this point prior to that season. Which is what I'm referring too. Hanley was number 10 on the list. Pedroia wasn't even top 100.
