That had got to be Owens' last start, right? Or does E-Rod need more time?

To me, Hank can't throw his fastball over the plate or it will get body slammed. This is what we are going to have going forward with him, hopefully with at least some fewer walks because the fastball is extremely hittable. That's the problem. At least if he keeps it low and nibbles a lot and keeps hitters off balance he has a shot. He's not throwing that fastball by anyone.
He would be a great pitcher for an Oakland or San Diego to trade for. A team with a big park to keep HR to a minimum. He's cheap and worth more to a San Diego.

This just hasn't been the case ever throughout his career. Just because he doesn't blow it by people doesn't mean he can't have an effective fastball. By far the bigger issue is that he can't command it.

Even guys who throw hard have hittable fastballs if they're not located well. See: Kimbrel, Craig earlier this year. Owens with good command of his FB would be a very good pitcher, because his change is outstanding. Cliff Lee got by alright with an equally pedestrian FB. It may take a couple of years, or never happen, but the problem for Owens is almost exclusively command/control.

I just hope the Red Sox don't regret not scoring more runs early. They had a couple chances to blow it open.

His strikeout to walk ratio on the season is 9 to 13 after tonight. You'd need one hell of ballpark to accommodate that kind of pitcher.

Agreed, there's no scenario where Owens is a MLB pitcher right now. Guys turn around all the time, but I feel like allowing him to start another game before giving him a much needed time in AAA would be downright negligent.

Pitchers can get by without a great fastball if they have exceptional command. A pitcher can get by without much command if they have exceptional velocity. Basically anyone who gets buy without either throws a trick pitch. Did Cliff Lee have a great fastball? I don't know, I guess it was pretty average-ish, sure. But I know for sure that he walked eighteen pitchers in 212 innings in 2010. Did Nolan Ryan have great control? Certaintly not. But he also threw 98+ consistently and had 80-grade durability. You can't take a player's biggest weakness and find comps based on that while ignoring the strength.

Regardless of the outcome of the review, I thought Mookie did a poor job of setting himself up to make the throw. Seemed to be lazy getting to the pop up allowing Lawrie the chance to tag.

Thank goodness for Brett Lawrie's tragic Redbull addiction.

Never should have even been close. Seemed like Mookie wasn't expecting him to go, and when he did he fired a cannon shot to home. Lucky to get him out there.

So... Score more runs, survive another inning, then Carson/Koji/Kimbrel?
