Buch is gonna follow up Wright's gem by making sure the bullpen gets their work in tonight Given tonight's results, it looks like you are so prescient. Hembree hadn't pitched since the WSox series. Layne and Carson needed the work. Good job all around!

I don't get why he always has to throw 30+ pitches now

Hembree will get us the win eventually. Almost there.

If we get 100,000 signatures, we can petition the White House to make it illegal for Papi to retire.

Good win!
Buchholz continues his long running pattern of total inconsistency.
He is either brilliant or maddeningly frustrating.

If Buchholz doesn't turn it around, he's going to cost the Red Sox some prospects.
I think Price will turn it around, but if Buchholz doesn't, I doubt the Sox are simply going to consider Porcello, Wright, and E-Rod the 2/3/4 starters and leave it at that.
If Buchholz doesn't pitch like the quasi-ace/#2 starter they wanted him to be, they'll probably deal a good portion of their system to get a cost controlled #2. I could see guys like Swihart, Devers, and two among Kopech/Dubon/Owens/Johnson/Washington/Ockimey/Lakins/Alex Basabe get dealt, and as I was watching Sonny Gray struggle I can't help but wonder if he'll be wearing a Red Sox uniform come 7/31, not that he'd be an upgrade based on how he's currently pitching.
I'd just as soon they keep their system intact, get a healthy E-Rod back, have Buchholz and Price pitch like they're capable of pitching, and hope Porcello and Wright can be solid, let alone spectacular like they have been.
And I'm sure the Sox would, too, but still, if the Sox have to go outside the system it's most likely because Buchholz either couldn't get his act together or he gets hurt again.
It would be nice if the Sox could actually depend on Buchholz throughout the season. I've always been a supporter of his, recognizing his patterns, but I'm kind of tired of watching him never be what we'd hoped he'd be. I guess he'll always be a decent pitcher who struggles when you think he should be pitching well, excels when you give up on him and then gets hurt when you start to depend on him.

Buchholz is not the pitcher he one was. In order to get away with throwing low 90s fastballs he has to have great command and most of the time now he doesn't have it. This is what could have been stories. The sooner he is out of the rotation, the better.

I've posted the actual facts too many times to repeat them, so I'll just note that neither of these statements bears much resemblance to reality at all. Either one could have have been asserted at the same time in three different seasons where he spent nearly all of the rest of the season (while healthy) pitching like a CY contender.

I don't understand what y'all's problem with Clay Buchholz is? Yesterday he outpitched ACE PITCHER SONNY GRAY and picked up THE DOUBLE-U.

I really wish he'd start playing better D because he could have an amazing season if so. He is frustrating the way he nonchalant s some balls by catching them to the side and letter high. Mookie, otoh, fields flies the right way with two hands and head high. Not knocking Jackie's defense, but I kept saying he's going to muff one of those by his individual style. At least the game was not on the line. No doubt the wind played a factor, but he didn't go fast enough to get under the ball.

The solution to Bucchholz conundrum: you deal him and never look back.
10 years is enough.

Farrell took Buck out at the end of 5 with a 5 run lead. Didn't want to tempt fate.
