... he always, always, always has trouble pitching with runners on base … This is a necessary skill to develop.

Farrell pre-game said that Kelly wouldn't start an inning after 95 pitches; he's at 96

Kelly has to come out, right? Sucks to lose a no hit bid because of a pitch count.

So it makes a lot of sense now to take him out and leave him with a very positive feeling. Maybe Tazawa, Uehara, and Kimbrel can provide a hitless inning each and really make it fun.

I know it isn't scientific....my stuff rarely is.....but to me what happened there was he lost his concentration. I am not blaming him.....that often is the difference between the greats in any occupation...but I give him credit for buckling down and getting out of it. The hitters are so good in this league, it requires a level of concentration/execution that most don't have. It's not concentration. It's that he always, always, always has trouble pitching with runners on base because he's not good pitching from the stretch. This goes back to St. Louis. Seems like between Kelly and Porcello, the Red Sox need some kind of 'stretch whisperer'.

Although, there weren't any baserunners before the 1st walk he gave up (which had a lot of close strikes). Something snowballed from there...any i have hard time believing it's just mechanical with all the repetitions he has had with men on.

Cool theory, although he's actually pitched better with runners on 2013 - 2015.

Under the eye test he seems much more fluid and relaxed from the windup, I'm surprised that his stats are stronger out of the stretch.

Mookie on pace for almost 30 homers 37 doubles 11 triples while playing above average RF. Sure hope he starts walking more but even if he doesn't, wow.

Farrell pre-game said that Kelly wouldn't start an inning after 95 pitches; he's at 96 If this is true and he sent him back out there...that's hard to understand. I am trying to be as polite as i can here.
