Hanley's been such a tease. After that horrendous slide from May 18 to June 11 (.169 / .270 / .182 in 89 PA / 20 GS), he went 4/9, HR, 3 BB in is next three games and there was hope he'd turned it around. Whereupon he hit .167 / .200 / .208 in his next 6 G (25 PA). Now he's 4/13, 2 HR, BB in 3 games. Let's see if that's actually the start of something. Doubt it. Still can't pull the ball with authority. Can't catch up to heat. If he gets hot here I deal him at the deadline. Agree 100%. Hopefully we can find some team to fall into the trap and take him.

"Cafardo reporting that Frank Wren is scouting ATL this week" I can think of no other sentence that strikes so much fear in my heart. Maybe it's for Teheran? I've always absolutely loved him as a prospect and still see a lot of potential in him as a major leaguer, I wouldn't oppose overpaying for him if it's not a goofy package. Teheran also makes me nostalgic, because I remember having an argument with someone here about him being a better prospect than Matt Moore way back when. Moore was also such a great prospect, too bad about the injuries. Trade for both.

Pedroia is a double play machine. It's getting so you hate to see him up with the bases loaded.

Especially when you're looking for a shut down inning after you score.

DP was really a killer. Should have gotten more runs.

Pedroia is a double play machine. Despite all the GDP, he's still having a very good year in the clutch. He's been 7 Runs Above Average at the plate based on his stats, but 12.8 based on Win Probability Average. That's roughly .65 wins of clutch. FanGraph's measurement, which uses a completely different and far more complex method, has it at 0.75 wins.

Classic John Farrell, reactive rather than proactive manager.
Take note. Brian Bannister's pitcher was clearly laboring, loaded the bases in the top half of the inning. He pulls him before he gives up any runs. Pen comes in gives up just 1 run.
Farrell's pitcher clearly laboring. Gives up a bunch of hits. Farrell waits til the game is out of reach to pull him.
It literally amazes me how dumb he is.

Pedroia is a double play machine. The irony of his initials is maddening. DP was really a killer. Should have gotten more runs. It's funny how the brain works, what we notice and what we don't. Coming into today he had 61 GDP opportunities and hit into 12 GDP, which is an insanely high rate. Aside from the 12 GDP, which is to say, in all the PA we've failed to notice much, he's been 25 for 47, with 5 2B, 4 HR, and 3 BB. .424 / .443 / .712 in GDP situations. The effective OBP is just .246, but the .712 SA more than makes up for it. It's still the equivalent of an 850+ OPS even including the GDP's. So it's not just feast or famine in these situations ... it's gourmet feast cooked by the celebrity chef of your choice or famine.

It literally amazes me how dumb he is. Not just clearly laboring, but it's also clear that, in this heat and with him sweating up a storm, he gets worse as an inning continues. I turned the TV off and I'll go upstairs and start attending to my status.

That infield defense is going to bite us in the ass all year. Especially at the corners.
