Terrible job by Clay giving up that pop fly single.

Yeah man, 3 soft contact singles. Easily could already be out of the inning if the ball wasn't well placed on every hit. It's what can happen when he's not getting swings and misses.

You're right he looks terrific out there. Get the extension ready.

Terrible job by Clay giving up that pop fly single. Lol. you will literally defend Buchholz no matter what he does. 6 batters 0 outs. When he gives up a HR, it's "oh never seen anyone give up a HR everytime he makes a mistake" here it's "oh it's terrible luck that the pitcher has given up 100 straight singles." It is pathetic.

Sending Buchholz out there for another inning is fireable. It's conceding the game.

Dombrowski needs to add a 4th or 5th starter and an average 1B and OF. Nothing expensive or special, just no black holes.
Raised Iglesias, Finnegan, Eickhoff, he'll eve Hellickson. I don't care. No more Clay...

All a pitcher can do is control how good his pitches are, not the results. A better pitcher does not prevent ground ball or popup singles.

I think its possible to acknowledge that Clay Buchholz is not very good while also acknowledging that he got a bit unlucky there.
Personally, I think Buchholz is okay, but hes just too volatile to be trotting out there. I would honestly rather give somebody like Wilkerson a shot. Another thing I've noticed is that Clay seems to melt down, rather than relax, after the unlucky hits, breaks, errors, etc. Not sure if there is evidence to back this up outside of the eye test, but, for at least the past few seasons, whenever a little bit of adversity arises, Clay too often folds.

Geez, Shaw sucks hitting that ball harder than anyone on the Ranges did in that first inning.

I don't think that he's defending Buchholz for the sake of defending Buchholz, I think he's merely being acerbically sarcastic to attack the over reactional, irrationally negative, and less than adequately substantive posts that flood the boards (and in particular the gamethread, which albeit is meant to be the lightning rod for the bad posts) It's like newer posters have taken over and have no idea how this place was run prior, or what made SP better than all of the other Red Sox fan sites. When I see gamethreads nowadays, I'm like Eric Cartman in the waterpark wondering what happened?

Under .500 in the month of June with a MLB low ERA amongst playoff teams at 4.3.. Keep on Tradin Dave, you ain't made a bad move yet!

You'd think that a baseball fan that watches baseball would realize that sometimes good pitches get hit, sometimes bad pitches don't get hit, sometimes you can hit the ball like crap and get a hit and sometimes you can hit the ball as hard as possible and not get a hit. And complaining about your pitcher giving up soft hits no matter how good or bad he is just stupid.

Is there a way we can just start the game with a reliever the bing in Clay to start the second inning?
Seriously I remember Pedro (maybe it was 2004?) had some first inning woes then would settle down. No idea how to fix

He isn't getting tagged today in terms of hard contact, but he really can't get swing and misses. I don't like his odds any time he steps on the mound anymore.
