By Papi standards, he's been terrible late in games of late.

How weird, another pitiful loss in a close game.

Nobody is safe if they don't get an XBH on this team.

Sox continue to be awful in 1-run games. That does not bode well for any team with playoff aspirations.
Than again, if you score 8 runs you should win a baseball game.
So frustrating to watch these pitchers piss away this offense.

By Papi standards, he's been terrible late in games of late. Ya know, he's clutch at about the same rate that he hits in non-clutch situations, which is almost al the time. Which is why he seems clutch.

Yankees are taking out the Astros but they are now within 4 games of the Sox.

That's the one game in the series they needed to win.

Sox now third worst in runs allowed in AL.
I actually think Dombrowski is going to make a big move. If he's been charged with winning now and they're on the bubble between division/wild card/out I think he'll feel he has to do something more to get them over that hump.

that's 4 games in the past week that the Sox easily could have and should have won

“@ryanhannable: Farrell said Matt Barnes and Clay Buchholz were unavailable. Barnes threw 3 innings last Wednesday and 1/3 inning Sunday.”

If he's been charged with winning now and they're on the bubble between division/wild card/out I think he'll feel he has to do something more to get them over that hump. Trouble is they don't need a big move; they need a couple of small moves. A Major League bullpen needs to be able to throw 500 innings, but Tazawa, Kimbrel and Uehara combined are worth less 200 innings. The big moves, which haven't really worked -- are the problem. The Red Sox didn't need a TOR starter; they needed a couple of back of the rotation guys with ERA's under five. Similarly the didn't need sixty elite closer innings, they needed 200 solid 6th and 7th innings.

I don't think we need another trade. But as bad as I think firing manager mid season is, in this case it must be done. JF has cause us so many games this year. I have never seen a team lose momentum so quickly. We go up by one and the other team quickly scores, we tie the game and the other team goes ahead. If its happening to the same pitcher than you move him, but when it seems to be happening to the entire pitching staff, you move the manager.

For those thinking we should fire the a manger. It won't happen. And it rarely happens in any sport. The cavs were the exception. And they would have won even if they didn't fire their coach. Teams above 500 don't fire their manager unless he chokes out a player or something

Teams above 500 don't fire their manager unless he chokes out a player or something It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. In 2008 the Brewers won the Wild Card. They were 83-67 under Ned Yost and finished up 7-5 under Dale Sveum to make the post-season. The Brewers also did it 28 years earlier in 1980. George Bamberger and Buck Rodgers both were over .500 as manager of the Brewers that year. The Red Sox were 43-42 in 1988 when John McNamara was sacked. He was replaced by Joe Morgan and they went 46-31 under him to win the division title.

I do anticipate he will be fired if the Sox don't go far in the post-season.

Again, another annoying winnable game that wound up in the loss column. Seeing the pitching matchup tomorrow I would think the Sox will get swept at home.
I think the Red Sox are a talented team, capable of winning the World Series, but I don't really believe in this team at this point. They just find ways to lose games they shouldn't and I feel that if they make the post-season and even though I think they should win the division I'm not that confident they'll even make the playoffs. Something is just off with this team.

“@ryanhannable: Farrell said Matt Barnes and Clay Buchholz were unavailable. Barnes threw 3 innings last Wednesday and 1/3 inning Sunday.” Clay went from a guy not pitching nearly 1 month to not being available. Sheesh, get rid of Buccholz for good already.
