The best "Let's go Red Sox" chants always happen at Tropicana Field.

Sigh. Farrell is going to run this staff into the ground. Just like ran Tazawa into the ground. Well, when your bullpen is russian roulette in what at the time was still a close game, your starters are asked to do more. That's just the way it is. Price ERA down to 4.00.

Longoria is silently having a fantastic year. The old power is back.

Warming up Kimbrel with a 4 run lead may be a bit of an overreaction to that homer... We may need Kimbrel later this series...

If the Sox can get anything that even resembles an eighth-inning guy, this team leads the East by at least 3 games

Bullpen can never make it easy. If we make the playoffs its going to be brutal.

In the space of a few comments the starters are being overused and the relievers are being overused. In my opinion what is going on with the bullpen is on the bullpen. Maybe they need to quit reading the press? They aren't this bad. They need to "man-up" and start getting it done. At this point they don't even have to be good. They just need to stop being lousy.

Barnes is perfectly capable of pitching the 8th inning in a three run game. As is Ross and Zeigler.

This is exactly where Barnes should be brought in to my thinking, for a laugher in the last inning. He's still learning, figuring out that he shouldn't throw a letter high fastball in the center of the plate to Longoria. Who cares? If he's to mature as a pitcher and not just a hard thrower, he needs to be put in exactly these situations. He's still not who he will be, but certainly better than who he was. The way to keep moving him forward? Assignments like this one.

Tonight proved why Barnes isn't a 8th iinning guy. Still too inconsistent.
I hope John Farrell realizes that Robbie Ross jr should be the 8th inning man, unless there is 3 rhb scheduled in the 8th inning, then it should be Ziegler.
I really hope Farrell realizes this before the playoffs begin.
Also I hope Koji has one more run left in him in September and October and he recovers.
Add- Robbie Ross jr is the closest thing the Sox have to Andrew Miller. He's not as good, but he should be used as a setup man like Miller was before he got injured in 2013.

And despite it all - blown leads, bad breaks, offense and pitching out of synch
Tied for first. Wow.
Three center fielders in the outfield - ages 22, 23, 26. Power, speed, defense. A catcher who has found himself at age 27. A line up that can (not always does, but can) keep turning things over throughout. Suddenly steady starting pitching.
I am feeling pretty good about things at the moment, considering so much that has gone before - the last two years, this year up to now. Tied for first!

All I said was the Sox need a reliable eighth-inning guy. Barnes is not that guy this year.

I understand. I was responding to Fanatic, who used that to bootstrap into another diatribe about the manager. Farrell has his warts, but I don't think letting Barnes finish the game fits into that narrative.

It is not even close. Ross is a middle of the pack reliever. Miller is an elite.

He hasn't been used as such because the manager can't correctly identify him as such.
