No, the AFL plays like a Double-A/Triple-A mix, which is too big a jump for a Low-A hitter. This does not even speak to Basabe's eligibility. He'll go to instrux, most likely. Also, from VZ and not eligible. Again, for the record, if from a country with a winter league (MX, VZ, DR, PR), you can't play in the AFL. You have been very helpful with some of the questions I have asked. Can you tell me what the rules are for sending guys to the AFL. Like how many? Understand now the winter league thing and the level of league you can send.

Ball as a reliever might already be better than Abad!
J/K but I'm definitely in favor of them trying something new with him. He needs a new path forward.

I'd missed this, but caught it in catching up on some reading today: Kevin Thomas of the PPH saying that Mauricio Dubon is going to play some outfield in the AFL as well to continue his super-utility grooming.
I emailed him to see if it was his idea or from the team, and he said it started as the former but he's had people tell him that's indeed part of the plan. interesting.

Moncada off to a good start thus far in AFL. Two for three with a HR. Game still in progress.
Update: Yoan finishes 3 for 5, 2 rbi at 3b for Saguaros.

Reminder that soxprospects.com/fall-winter.htm has all of your fall/winter stats. AFL will be updated daily, winter leagues will eventually be updated weekly, although I'll probably do it more often at first as I go in to add guys.

I went to the game today. Dubon and Callahan played. Didn't really keep track of stats. Just my impressions from watching them. Dubon went 2 for 4 but the next batter hit into a double play both times. Swung pretty often. Didn't seem to take much. He was good looking on defense outside of overthrowing the first basemen in the 2nd. Made the rest of the throws including starting a couple double plays chance.
Callahan got threw the inning without run but had 4 or 5 hard hit balls(including foul balls). He did get a couple swing and misses but batters squared him up a few times.

Ryan Hannable @ryanhannable 18m18 minutes ago Red Sox news: SS Mauricio Dubon making his OF debut in the Arizona Fall League playing CF. Makes sense given Sox INF depth.

I am going to the Wednesday, October 19, game between the Surprise Saguaros (Red Sox, Royals, Twins, Pirates, Rangers prospects) and the Scottsdale Scorpions (Yankees, Angels, Phillies, Mets prospects) at Scottsdale Stadium (6:35 p.m. start). I'll be sitting several rows up behind the first base dugout. Let me know if you are going.
Seats are not reserved and 200 is a good crowd for most Fall League games, so you can sit at your favorite spot to watch a game. There are almost always many empty seats directly behind home plate where most of the scouts are sitting.

Has anyone seen Ball recently? Stats aside, is there development? Is the projection still decent (not odds, but upside)? I'm still trying to be optimistic, but I can only follow box scores and stats, which are a mixed bag, to be favorable.
What's his velocity? Movement? Secondaries?

Keith Law saw him and more or less confirms he'll never be a starter and maybe not a reliever either. Glowed about Kopech, though: www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=5758As for Ball I and several others here thought it was an ill-advised pick from the start but personally I would've developed the kid as an OF as the bat was good whereas the pitching was all velo and no control, not even of his fastball. Now you'll be lucky if he's a 7th inning guy. All while picking over Meadows, Shipley, JP Crawford, Dominic Smith and Aaron Judge.

If someone wants to pay me I'd embrace the challenge, yes. And my first order of business would be to give all the scouting positions a raise then lure two or three the best pitching evaluators from teams that have a strong track record of finding good starters after the first 15 picks in the first round.
But yeah, if you're hiring I'll send along my compensation proposal and contract parameters.
