Buchholz being good Clay is huge not only for the Wright coverage but the Sox are now more likely to pick up his option and he could be a valuable trade chip this off season.
It doesn't hurt that Moncada will need three weeks or so at Pawtucket to refine his game next season.

Oh the plus side- Moncada is going to get a lot of experience with Major League quality breaking balls in the next couple weeks. Should be a good learning experience if he takes it the right way and it doesn't end up costing the teams wins.

Yup, it's the right call and there's a much bigger chance that his helps him instead of breaking him.

It appears as though I may be totally wrong about Clay. Although, there is no such thing as the real Clay Buchholz, I am going to refrain from posting anything about his current or long term viability. He deserves credit for pitching well and my anti-Clay bias should disqualify me from posting about him.

Abad has actually been really good lately. It doesn't look as good because of that appearance where he gave up a cheap infield hit and two walks (at least one of them the ump really squeezed him) against RHHs and then Tazawa let them score.

When a guy strikes out 7 times in a row against pitching which is really nothing special it's not a good indicator. We are in a pennant race but some of you want to keep with the Moncada program? When a guy isn't even close to ready it does him no good to keep throwing him out there. They know how to get him out and are going to keep doing it. You can see the look of terror in his face when he goes up there. Stop the bleeding please.

It was a joke. Maybe you guys should chill out? In all seriousness other people on here have said he might be served well by a day off or two, and I agree.

Wow. This team may legitimately not make the playoffs. And yet somehow 24 hours later the Sox are tied for first.

After tomorrow, we'll get nothing but Orioles, Blue Jays and Yankees (save for a brief series against the Rays) until the end of the season. It's going to be a bloodbath. It's going to be awesome.

Please Sox, sit Xander for the final game of the series. Give him a full couple days off before the final sprint. He SO looks like he needs it.
Moncada -- IDK. Obviously he's not ready. But the problem is, there have been oodles of toolsy players down through the ages who were never able to hit the breaking ball. Some more time in the minors may help him, or it may not.
Maybe 10 months from now we'll be shrugging off what was a temporary bump in the road. Or maybe 2 years from now we're going to have people on here lamenting about how he was the ultimate lost opportunity to sell high of all time.

No mention of the smoke from J Kelly? Guy looks awesome in his new role ... seriously, he could be a real weapon rest of the year and into the playoffs.

Hopefully, the MFY choke against the Sox like they're choking against the Jays tonight. It might not matter at this rate. The Sox have been underperforming for months and the Tigers and O's are right behind them. Pretty good chance the Sox miss the playoffs entirely. Someone else said it a few days ago but they really should've canned Farrell after that awful June. It does look like there is a good chance he is the difference between a division title and missing the playoffs. That was me. And if they make it to the World Series and win this year I'll never chip on him again.

Please Sox, sit Xander for the final game of the series. Give him a full couple days off before the final sprint. He SO looks like he needs it. I think Bogaerts needs more than rest. His swing needs work. His follow through is awkward and it seems like his bat has way too much whip coming through the zone. He taps into very little of his raw power. It's a project for the offseason.
