This is just personal fantasy here, but Jose Bautista taking a meaty one year deal to go play in the NPBO would be glorious.

So what are people's thoughts on this bullpen? How good do we think it will be? Who will be in it? Will Carson Smith be ready for the start of the year? My guess is he starts on the DL..
Closer: Kimbrel (R) 8th: Thornburg (R) 7/8: Kelly (R) 6/7: Barnes (R) 6/7: Ross (L) Lefty: Abad (L) Swing: Wright (R)

And yeah, Hembree has no options.

As much as I love the depth at both starter, and reliever, there are too many bodies to fit
Price, Sale, Porcello, Buchholz, Pomerantz, Wright, ERod Kimbrell, Smith, Thornburg, Kelly, Barnes, Hembree, Ross, Abad, Scott
Only way to keep all is Smith starts on DL, with ERod, Barnes and Scott to AAA.
All in all, a good problem to have.
Of course they could deal a starter, a reliever, or both, and take advantage of the high value pitching has right now. Thus seems more likely. Buchholz seems the most likely starter dealt, while Hembree holds that status for the relievers. But in this market, nothing seems off the table and DDo will accept the most favorable offer, or do nothing in the absence of a solid offer. Either way, he has the makings of a really good team.

I'd trade Hembree if anyone offered a C+ prospect. I think he'll always have trouble with lefties.

I'd trade Hembree if anyone offered a C+ prospect. I think he'll always have trouble with lefties. So you want to get rid of a guy that held righties to a .591 OPS because he struggled against lefties? You also want to get rid of our lefties because they aren't good against righties? I see no point in trading a guy for almost nothing because he has a flaw. Sure it be ideal if he was great against both righties and lefties, but if used correctly he can be a good piece for our pen. A C+ prospect is most likely never going to give you anything.

I love Koji. One of my favorite players ever, regardless of position or team, and he has a place in the hearts of Red Sox fans forever. I wish him nothing but the best.
That being said, I'm glad DD didn't bring him back. It was time to move on. Thornburg is simply the better option at this point for the 8th inning.

I just don't agree, with about 75% of hitters being right handed there is a use for Hembree. He could also get better against lefties. If Farrell can't use him correctly he needs to be fired.

Gene Nelson was a semi-ROOGY back in the day. God, I hated seeing him come in.

Closer: Kimbrel (R) 8th: Thornburg (R) 7/8: Kelly (R) 6/7: Barnes (R) 6/7: Ross (L) Lefty: Abad (L) Swing: Wright (R) TJ surgery is a 12-month recovery, minimum, and there's a reasonable body of evidence that correlates early return (12-14 months) with poorer outcomes. I'd imagine late July/early August at the earliest, with an outside chance he's back before the end of June. Starting the year on the team an active would be unprecedented. Point of reference (and take it with a grain of salt, because Lackey was 35, not 25), Lackey had surgery in early Nov 2011 and came back in (late?) April 2013, almost 17 months. Carson Smith had his May 24, 2016. So think July 24, 2017 if he's a fast healer. He's unlikely to be very effective at first, too. So it probably won't be until the playoffs that he'll be a major factor, provided he's lucky and hard-working.
