The Orioles tie an MLB record by conceding at least 5 runs in 20 consecutive games. Happy for their manager

Julio Urias to undergo shoulder surgery. That hurts for the Dodgers. Now the next 2 years will be a big question for one of the most talented young pitchers in the game.

Left anterior capsule, which is no joke. Luckily, labrum and rotator cuff were both fine when they went in. ESPN story lists Mark Prior, Johan Santana, John Danks, Rich Harden, Chris Young as guys who've had the surgery, which is an awful sounding list, but they all had additional damage. Still, just awful news for a bright, young talent in the game.

What he said was correct, it was not correct that he said it. His arm sucks, but even Johnny Bench would have had a hard time throwing guys out with Arrieta and Lester on the mound.

At least the Red Sox didn't trade Bowden for him.

Can anyone explain why Maricio Dubon was picked for the futures game? He's not a top prospect and he isn't having a great season. Are they trying to get every club a prospect? Or is the world team just that weak?

So the Yankees called up Dustin Fowler today, and in the first inning major league debut he had an open rupture of right patella tendon in right knee. That's an absolutely brutal, potentially career-ending injury. He didn't get to hit- he was due to lead off the top of the second. Just awful.

I hear the echoes down through time...
NY lost 4-3. Judge struck out with Gardner on base. Looks as if he may be susceptible to hard breaking balls on the outside corner (we're talking miniscule sample size here). Robertson got him with one and others have been able to as well.
Fowler ran into the wall at a full gallop. It was painful to watch.

Or is the world team just that weak? He's a fairly well-regarded prospect and one of only a few Honduran players in MLB history.

That's true, but Lewis Brinson and Corey Ray are going from the Brewers as well. But yeah, since there's a good chance he'll be (arguably) the first Honduran player in MLB history it makes sense that MLB would want to highlight him.

Not as strange as most would think. This is a great party trick (if you go to enough parties with good crowds that is). How may people do you have to have in a room before the odds are at least 50-50 that two have the same birthday (day/month)? The answer is 23. That's so counter-intuitive that I still find it hard to believe though I can prove it mathematically. There's no doubt that having an injury happen at the same position and having it (maybe) end the players career decreases the likelihood of a match. But having the date's jive? That's a lot more probable than we might think. It's even more probable given that baseball isn't played 365 days a year, so having it happen on the same date is not that much of a stretch.

I believe Garrett Richards had the same injury, Jerod Mayo, Cadillac Williams, Jimmie Graham of the NFL. Sounds like some of them injured other areas trying to compensate for repaired knee. Not a lot of "success" stories. Hopefully with medical technologies, this kid has a shot.

Carlos Gonzalez ruptured the patella tendon in 2014. His bat stayed near the same, but the stolen base numbers fell off a cliff. Victor Cruz is another one who had it in football.

As others have stated, the fact he's Honduran had a huge part of it. When a player is from a non-traditional baseball country (or American territory, in the case of former Red Sox (borderline) prospect and Guam native John Hattig www.soxprospects.com/players/hattig-john.htm), they do try to get those guys into the game. Also, while his numbers don't jump off the page, he's reasonably well regarded and is second in the minor leagues in stolen bases.

Travis Shaw hits his 18th HR today. Hopefully that makes DD think 3x or more before selling low on the next Red Sox player, such as someone like Swihart.
