I'm confused as to how the Cubs are able to sign a prospect for $1 million. I thought they were still under the $300k hard cap penalty.

Sounds about right. High price but we needed to get a lot of money. Hope Eddie R and co are on the money! Need an influx of talent.

Ben Badler mentioned this in Twitter that explains it: So if they paid 1 million, but only 25% counted against the cap, then they're still good. Edit: I'm too slow!

Pretty strong haul of talent for us today.
Eddie Romero + no probation could bode very well for future July 2nd's too.

According to Baseball America, the Red Sox have agreed to deals with all three of the players listed above as well as shortstop Nelfy Abreu out of the Dominican Republic and shortstop Denny Daza out of Venezuela. None of the signing bonuses have been announced at this time, and the bonuses for the players out of Venezuela may take longer to be announced at the request of the family of the players. What's the general consensus on Longhi being the one traded? Good trade? Or is this another example of DD overpaying with prospects? I think it's a bit high of a price to pay, but I'm not crushed about it. Largely because he's currently blocked by Travis and Ockimey and we really need the money.

I think if it allowed hem to add more Higher end talent then it's a good move. I don't think much of Longhi's MLB prospects

Agree he is blocked by Travis and Ockimey right now. If it gets them the money to sign all of the players I guess it is a good deal.

Alvaro Gonzalez was linked to DET by Badler. Ranked 39. Says he has a big arm but makes high effort throws. Funky hitting mechanics. Not a lot of power expected. FYI, the Reds have a $5.25 mil bonus pool and the only player they are tied to is for $100,000.

Wonder if the Sox for a period felt they could get more money to top this, but the trade didn't go through.

Interesting, and I think correct, to sign high-level positional players instead of pitchers. No idea what the statistics are, but I would suppose they "fail" a lot more in the quest to get to the majors. Andersen Espinoza probably was an outlier. Christopher Acosta has got to bug the heck out of the brain thrust. I'm stoked about Flores, Diaz, and company!

Hopefully the additional international signing bonus money leads to more signings...there appears to still be some unsigned talent per BA...http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/2017-top-50-international-prospects-signing/

Blocked at 1B may not hit enough to be a viable LF. If the players they are able to sign are younger with more upside at key positions it should be a wash.
