I fail to see the reasoning for sending Kimbrel out for the 10th. He already vultured a win. Let someone else get the all important save stat. So in the beginning of April, it's not okay for a 4 out save against Detroit but in the middle of April it's okay for a 6 out appearance against the Jays? I mean if John wants to be fair about things and only limit him to one inning stints in season early on, then at least be consistent about it. So dumb, honestly. I think you are looking at it the wrong way. It's not that Farrell changed his views on Kimbrel pitching more than 3 innings at a time over the course of a week or two. That would be absurd. From what I have read on this site as well as other sites, Farrell is concerned with Kimbrel coming in during an inning and appears to want him to pitch clean innings only. Not sure what that says about Farell's belief/confidence in Kimbrel (and other's have commented on it already in this thread I believe), but there is most likely going to come a time where Kimbrel is going to be needed badly to come in with runners on. You have to assume that Farrell doesn't feel that time should happen early in the season, so we will see if that changes in the future.

You can certainly question the wisdom of a hard-and-fast rule of not wanting to bring in Kimbrel in during the middle of an inning. But it's not a six outs vs. four outs question and there's no hypocricy involved. On the other hand, I do think this lends itself to the argument that Kimbrel should come in to start the 8th of a one-run game more often with the intention of going two innings, especially when the best hitters on the opposing team are scheduled to bat in the 8th. That's especially true this year where this is a pretty big drop-off from Kimbrel to Barnes/Ross/etc.

I also think Kimbrel needs to sack up and come in during those situations or Farrell needs to get that trash out of his head if it's coming from his head and not Kimbrel mouth.
