Don't look now, but Eddie Rodriguez looks like he might be the 1a-caliber guy we were all hoping. they said righties were 0-34 before a hit tonight. That is outstanding and should lead to that caliber pitcher

Hendricks is getting that call off the plate, he'll live there all night.

It's entirely a question of health and consistency with him. That's kind of my point...since his recall last year, he's been consistent and healthy. I'd like to see fewer walks, but his slider's improved and his K rate is strong. It's only 20 or so starts, but the improvement is borne out both in numbers and the eyeball test. And really, the patellar dislocation is (hopefully) a bit of a red herring. Nobody's voicing concern over Benintendi's health, even though he's had the same number of significant injuries (Fr year of college and LCL/ACL last year) in that timeframe.

Two strikes right down the pipe to Russell, called consecutive balls. Nice work, (ch)ump.

Don't look now, but Eddie Rodriguez looks like he might be the 1a-caliber guy we were all hoping. Nothing but pure quality from Eduardo tonight. He pitched awesome tonight. I think I'm all set watching Kris Bryant face the Sox though. I hope he stays in the NL forever. What a force he has been this series.

I think I'm all set watching Kris Bryant face the Sox though. I hope he stays in the NL forever. What a force he has been this series. His worst BAA in a month starting last August is .185. That's pretty solid work. His BABIP is probably unsustainably low right now, but his HR rate is unsustainably high. Tonight is, I think, exactly what we can expect going forward (and basically, who he's been since July 2016). And yes, please keep Kris Bryant away from everything Red Sox unless it's the uniform.

This ump will make any pitcher look like a Cy Young award winner. Hanley struck out because the pos ump would have called that 3-2 pitch a strike.

We ride with Joe Kelly tonight. Buckle up. ... ...uh...yee-haw?... How any one man can hit so many baseballs with a 99-mph heater and a pretty nasty slider is a mystery to me. His swing-and-miss stats aren't measured in percents, they're tallied by month of last occurrence. And yet, here I sit, hoping today is the day, as Lester Burnham said, he turns it all around...

how does he strike out 4.5 per 9? How is that possible with that heat.

This ump will make any pitcher look like a Cy Young award winner. Hanley struck out because the pos ump would have called that 3-2 pitch a strike. His calls are completely nonsensical. It's almost impressive. Two called balls by Kelly over the plate and a called strike six inches off and low. It's bizarre.

Hope someone else is warming. You just can't allow Kelly anywhere near an important situation. He's unpitchable.

You really wonder how Farrell can just sit there as Kelly gifts the game away. He's sooooo bad.

Kelly isn't a good pitcher. He isn't. Get ready, he is facing Bryant with the men on base.

Walk 2 guys. Nothing bad can happen. It is impressive work to walk 2 guys with this ump's strike zone.

Stop throwing sliders. Try to spot your fastball for the first time in your life.

Stop throwing sliders you idiots. Kelly is just the complete absolute worst. Farrell just literally giving away the game because he doesn't have a clue.

The lack of awareness from a major league manager boggles the mind. Barnes hasn't pitched in 5 days? Why is he wasting away in the bullpen while Joe Kelly is handing out baserunners.
You also can't say enough bad things about Vazquez trying to backhand the ball.
Listen, you can't throw Kelly in any game with a lead. You just can't. He's unfixable and unpitchable.
