OK, Pomeranz stunk, and I am no fan of his, but the offense getting two hits against a salad tosser like Peralta is nearly as awful.

Hembree was overdue to get shelled, that should wrap this one up.

If the Sox come back and win from this renewed deficit it will be the greatest comeback in the history of non-data-verified, hyperbole-infused narratives. And a great win.

The only Dependable reliever the Red Sox have is Craig Kimbrel. Dumbrowski has never been able to put together a bullpenn.

Double Playdroia. I can't get mad at the guy. He's been a great Sox. Hope he stays he till the end.

So are the Red Sox gonna have to score 17 runs all the time to get a W now?

I would like to propose a Bradley for Braun trade. It wouldn't be good as far as defense and losing even more lefty/righty flexibility with the lineup. Still I feel like this season has a tinge of the ole 'competitive team, entertaining to watch, but still one player away from truly competing for a championship.' If the team isn't able to string a bunch of singles and doubles together, it just isn't going to really scare any real championship contending teams with this offense. I dread a Devers for an aging slugger trade. Or a star slugger with injury concerns, for Devers. Or a semi-star slugger with a long, affordable contract for Devers. I am starting to see a championship possibly emerge, but only if we give up Devers. That sort of trade wouldn't result in a dynasty, however. Not after giving up Kopech, Moncada, Espinoza, etc. I was really starting to get excited about a true dynasty developing for the Red Sox, to be set to battle the Cubs dynasty for several years. A dynasty like the Yankees latest dynasty was.
So in last hopes of preserving more cheap, star-power youth, like we have with Devers, why not trade Bradley and Dalbec for Braun? Or is that a ludicrous proposal from one side or the other?

The Red Sox did all that damage in the 8th with two outs. Young Struck out and Leon flied out then Rutledge got it started with an infield single.

Something tells me if Rutledge was coming up with a chance to tie or win the game, Hanley still wouldn't be up to PH.

Pomeranz dipping velo is a concern. I'm worried he's hurt. Not to mention he's completely given up on his cutter.
On the bright side, at least the offense, Mookie included, is heating up. Need to steal one tonight with Kendrick on the mound.

The dip in velcocity is concerning but I wonder if that's who Pomeranz normally is. The 94-95 is great with his first start but he was obviously feeling strong after a lot of rest.
I'm more worried about the bullpen. I see replacement level pitchers everywhere in that bullpen outside of Kimbrel. Robby Scott is great situationally, Barnes is okay at times, but other than that, what do the Sox really have here in the bullpen?
The Sox need a healthy Thornburg and Smith back at 100 percent at some point this year, the bullpen isn't good enough as it currently stands. I really don't want to see another trade for a reliever either. Maybe a small deal like the Ziegler trade last year, but that's it.

Noe Ramirez is a replacement-level reliever. Robbie Ross, Heath Hembree and Joe Kelly are not.

Xander disappoints so much I think people have some unrealistic expectations for Xander. He has a wRC+ of 122 so far this year and is 3rd on the team in fWAR. His k-rate is down to 11.1%, less than half of what it was in 2014. Sorry he's not at MVP level, but he's still a very good player.

I have been reserving judgment on Pomeranz, but no more. The problem isn't just the stinkers. It's that even at his best, he's a 5+ inning starter. I don't think the velocity "dip" is injury; I think his first game was an aberration.
That said: why not move him to pen? In short stints, he could be 93 or more. His curve can be wicked. I could imagine him as an Andrew Miller (veeerrrryyy) light. I know this just puts them another starter down, but, well, nothing is perfect.

The only thing with Xander is I want to see his pull side power come back. He is a fine hitter, but at times last year he was bordering on elite.
