He must have read the Globe today. Summary? Cafardo cited defensive metrics that show X as being below average fielder. Then he argued against the metrics, as he is wont to do, because his eyes tell him better. At least he didn't cite some imaginary scout, or front office executive.

Remember to never quote the Globe regarding X defense again. Thank you. The Mgt.

Pomeranz is a stinky pitcher acquired in a stinky trade by a stinky GM.

Well this game is pretty much gone. They'll have dropped from 1 game behind NY to 4 games behind NY in a week's worth of time.
The good news is the rest of the league other than NY and Houston is pretty lousy so the Red Sox will probably wind up gearing for the Wild Card game with a chance they wind up with Chris Sale pitching at Fenway against whoever manages to finish a few games above .500.

Hembree is a stinky reliever put into a stinky situation by a stinky manager. wcp3...your cracking me up. To be fair to Hembree, I think he's an MLB-caliber reliever who deserves a roster spot. But his manager needs to stop putting him into situations beyond his ability. It's as if Farrell thinks he can only pitch his best relievers when the team has a lead. He's just so clueless with the bullpen.

June 11th and we're giving up on the division? I hate gameday threads sometimes, man.

June 11th and we're giving up on the division? I hate gameday threads sometimes, man. As if "we" have anything to do with the Red Sox finishing ahead of New York? I'm not "giving up on the division". The Red Sox are the ones that can't beat the Yankees. You and I have nothing to do with it. Frankly I think the Yankees, despite their flaws, are a better team than the Red Sox. I know it's painful to say. Just because I'm a Red Sox fan doesn't mean that I think the Red Sox WILL finish ahead of New York. They certainly can and I hope I look dumb here, but frankly I have concerns that Porcello and Price aren't going to be consistent enough and that the lineup won't generate offense consistently enough to allow the Red Sox to go out and win 92 games or so. I think this team is an 87 win team which should get them the first Wild Card spot. I hardly think a 4 game deficit is insurmountable, but I don't believe that this team will overcome. It doesn't mean that I'm giving up on the Red Sox. I have no control over what they do. I'm merely stating what I think the outcome will be. Feel free to disagree. It's quite alright and I hope you are correct and I'd be happy to admit to being wrong. The truth of the matter is that winning the division is kind of irrelevant anyways. Last year was the most unsatisfying division championship they've ever had, less satisfying than even the 1988 division title of oh, by the way, you finished first, now get swept by Oakland, the team that clinched your division for you because you couldn't do it. Obviously the team playing best in October is really what matters. Could it be the Sox? Sure, it could be. We'll find out.
