Deven Marrero seeing 150+ AB's in the Major's this year should result in someone losing their job, Im sorry. Paxton gonna get another F'n inning now too, guy can't even just strike out when we need him to.

I am so finished with Young. Get rid of him and call up Brentz. He deserves another shot with his new swing and we can definitely use the pop and a shakeup of this lifeless lineup.

Marrero is starting important games. Just think about that for a moment.

Sam Travis - seems he could get some hard contact. Lin - good at bats. But...for some reason, here we are. Young looks completely done.

It definitely is one of the internal options that doesn't cost anything that could incrementally make this team better. Young has shown next to nothing this season to maintain a roster spot. Brentz is tearing up AAA pitching, and though I don't think he'll ever be more than an all right hitter, I'm more than willing to take a chance or two the way this offense has been going. Brentz, Travis, & Devers need to be getting AB's over combinations of Holt/Marrero/Lin/Moreland/Young right now

Marrero is starting important games. Just think about that for a moment. I seem to recall being told that it made sense to keep him on the roster because he was useful as a defensive replacement. And yet he's in the starting lineup every damn game.

This is truly magic - a first place team that feels like it is hitting rock bottom. They will regret the wasted great pitching performances from earlier in the season.

Second place coming soon! This offense is not fixable with one trade or bringing up a 20-year old. This is just a complete mess. Why is Betts still leading off? Can't wait until they lose the division so they can finally fire Farrell.

Fun(?) Fact: With Pedey going 0 for 4 tonight, this lineup now carry ONE hitter whose OPS is over .800! I'm not even mad! Just amazed.

Hey David Price, I got word that Pedro Martinez used the word "eww" when describing last night's bad game for Eduardo Rodriguez.
This time when you get in this HOF's face and say "Hey look guys it's the greatest pitcher to ever live," Pedro could stop you right there and smile because you wouldn't of been in the wrong this time.
(I imagine there would be no need for a applause this time from the other teammates)

I honestly think that was our biggest mistake this past offseason (letting Lovullo walk). Good to see Arizona doing great this season ::sigh:: (And to a previous poster Chris Young is here to stay.....until we dump Farrell.)

At this point, just about everybody in the lineup is underachieving. No one acquisition is going to fix this.
Mookie Betts is fantastic but isn't exactly having a year worthy of a $300 million extension, although we'd all give him one in a heartbeat. This is a down year for him compared to last season by a good deal.
Benintendi has been mildly disappointing. When you think of the hype he had as a shoo-in for ROY, it's not much different than how the Sox were supposed to be a lock for the division.
Hanley was pretty invisible during the first half, which killed the middle of the order.
Bogaerts, now with an injury, is fading pretty fast. He wasn't exactly killing it before the injury. His complete lack of power is surprising and he's doing the same thing he always does, get off to a fast start and then fade. He's done this sooner than later. Frankly, the way he's playing, if he continues on, it won't be that hard for the Red Sox to not want to tie up huge $ in an extension. My gut is he'll have a career year in 2019 and leave afterwards, which would be fine. Like Benintendi just this season, Bogaerts has been a mild disappointment from what we imagined he'd be. A really good player, but not the superstar we thought he'd be.
JBJ is performing as we'd thought and Mitch is the mediocre Mitch we thought he'd be.
Vazquez and Leon are the tandem we thought they'd be. Vazquez got off to a fast start and is useless at the plate now. The shame is Swihart looks like he'll never be what we hoped he would be. He looked on the way and the Sox messed with him.
Pedroia has been held back by injuries but you have to give him credit, he just keeps plugging along.
3b is a hole of suck, which hopefully tonight, ends for the next 6 and a fraction years.
Chris Young is toast. I wish they'd give Brentz a shot at this point.
This team is boring to watch. And I know people will say stop complaining about a first place team. The Sox are babysitting 1st place. The Yankees soiled themselves for a month and the Sox could have left them in the dust. They didn't, because the hard truth is that the Sox are a decent team, but they're not a great team.
This is supposed to be the Red Sox window to win, but the truth is that overall the Yankees are a better team already and will be in the future. That wasn't supposed to happen for a couple of seasons. The Sox had the next couple of years to themselves the way the Patriots own the AFC East.
The Sox have good starting pitching, but as I've been told by many around here, it's not strong starting pitching that wins it, but rather it's balanced teams. The Red Sox aren't that balanced. The offense is very weak and when they run into better pitching in the playoffs they won't last long.
Dombrowski can improve the bullpen, although the cost might be scary, but he can't fix this offense. They have to fix themselves.
You can say the Sox are gutless. Yet as pointed out their record in close games and extra inning games are decent to good. I would say thank you to Craig Kimbrel for making that possible.
If the Sox lead 4-3, Kimbrel will hold it.
If the Sox trail 4-3, forget it. Don't bother watching. They'll either go down meekly or they'll load the bases with no outs and not score.
It's very telling they only have 1 victory when trailing after 8 and it took a very wild Chapman and 2 defensive gifts to make that victory happen. This is a very boring team that doesn't exactly find different ways to win.
They have one formula. Score 4 or 5 runs, have the starter pitch well, pray the bullpen bridges it to Kimbrel and they win. Otherwise they have no other way to win.
I think they will give up the division sooner than later and be a 1 and done team in the post-season. And given the way this team presents itself (they were embarrassing in that brawl against Baltimore and they were A-holes in that incident with Eck), I won't be THAT sad for THIS team. I root for the laundry at the end of the day and some years I like the people that wear the laundry better than others. This isn't one of those years.
