MLB should do away with 2 games series. It seems a waste.

Why 4 game schedules, which are even more efficient than 3 game series? Are you advocating a return to shorter seasons? Am very with you on the number of Interleague games. Regardless, IMO each team (visiting or home) should choose which rules to play under. My bet is that the greater majority would choose DH.

Chris Sale can make this a very good 2 week stretch, if we get him some runs to work with.

Pruitt - 6-2 5.65, 1 quality start (out of 3 - small sample size) - right there for the taking. Just got to get to him to get Sale some early runs. Back to business!

8 against TB (5 away, 3 home), 10 against NYY (7 away, 3 home), 5 against Cleve (4 away, 1 home). Also four vs. Hou to end the season, but my guess is Hou will be just resting up, lining up their pitchers and perhaps even treating at least the last two like Spring Training.
Other games on the schedule, of course, but these will go a long way to determine Div/WC/stay home. Win those series vs. NYY and TB and they should - should - secure the div (barring major injuries, double-digit rainouts resulting in double-digit double headers, meteors, etc.).

Not really fair to use quality starts for Pruitt - one of those three was a spot start when the Rays got hit with injuries, and he went three shutout innings before getting pulled because he wasn't stretched out. His ERA is actually 3.14 as a starter. He's a short righty with stuff that isn't outstanding but he throws 93 and his control is good. He's far from a pushover.

Chris Sale's next 6 games (opponents)-
Tampa Bay New York New York Cleveland Toronto New York
Sale could be the difference of winning the division this year.

Now here's an interesting starting line up (I like it!)
Núñez 2B Pedroia DH Benintendi LF Betts RF Devers 3B Bogaerts SS Moreland 1B Leon C Bradley Jr.CF
and Sale LHP
Pedey off of the DL, Boyer on. That takes care of the roster crunch.

Have to say I am feeling good with Sale going - and the line up (I just posted) is quite interesting.

Betts needed to be in the middle of the order and with how Núñez has been hitting, him, Pedroia, and Benny should be good table setters for him

This lineup works when Nunez is hitting .999, but typically I'd want someone who walks a lot more at leadoff. Did Farrell put him there because of all the home runs?

Farrell is a believer in the hot bat, so that may be why. Farrell also has these guys running (often ill-advisedly) and Nuney has decent wheels so the logic likely works in his head with old school "perfect lead-off guy," or something along those lines. Plus, with the bum knee, Pedroia may be more of a DP candidate in the one-hole - again, me projecting what Farrell is thinking. The Trop is certainly not Fenway so it remains to be seen if Nuñez in the #1 works to the manager's expectations and the player's strengths. Meanwhile I love the idea of moving Mookie down to the middle.

I like the lineup given that Hanley is injured, but I'd prefer to see Pedroia and Nunez switched in the lineup based on the reason JimEd gave. Pedroia is normally the better OBP guy and he's less likely to hit into a DP leading off and Nunez is less likely to hit into a DP in the #2 spot than Pedroia.

The league should ditch interleague (MAYBE keep one 2x2 home/home series with a designated "rival") and return to a 154-game schedule. That would allow time for a three-game wildcard series instead of the ASININE one-off we have now. Edit to add: MUCH better lineup from Farrell tonight.

I'd get rid of the 2nd wildcard, but I realize that will never happen because the only thing that matters is making sure that almost every team is in the playoff hunt until the end so they can keep selling their super expensive tickets. Of course that's also why they won't go to a 154 game schedule.

looks like Sale means business today. Let's get some runs off of this clown and see if he can get a complete game.
