Maddox continues to impress. He has nice life on that fastball, and the offspeed stuff passes my humble eye test. Now, let's get a game on the MFY.

I like the concept, but please refer to the 2nd guy as "the douche on the the MFY". Then I feel better. Utley is dirty. ADD: There are some plays that will always be etched in my mind. Marichal hitting Roseboro with a bat. Clemens throwing a broken bat at a runner. Rose's taking out Fosse in an exhibition game and Utley's slide against the Mets. your ADD brought "this" to mind, immediately...

Back in the '60s, playing wiffle ball w my 3 brothers, and/or rest of kids in the neighborhood, in a yard that seemed bigger than it probably was, surrounded by hedges, all around, and the ball off/through the one oak tree, was in play if it didn't touch the ground, we would often play as MLB teams and/or Red Sox, and I recall those late 60s teams had some great hitters to mimic (Yaz of course was always a fave of everyone's, to do...mine was Reggie, as I could switch hit, having been coached up, in my 1st Farm League LL team, sponsored by the local McDonalds - free soda, fries, and sandwich, after games - as a 7yo, by my 1st manager, Coach Lewis, to hit LH, after I was brought on board as a fast, LH throwing RH hitter) ...this team does, too. I wonder if I could still hit one over the hedges, across Second Av, and on Mrs. Evans' roof across the street, for that auto-HR! We had an automatic three outs if you hit the ball into my neighbors yard. He had a fenced in yard with a big German Shepherd guard dog. It took forever to distract the dog to get the ball back and you had to be fast. Phil - you've got me trying to drill into my failing memory, and re-recollecting...when we were very young, over the hedges was a HR, and then we did start playing a person, then 2, as we got older, you've got me thinking "over" the roof, was and over the hedges, not caught, as well, but hitting the roof/house was auto-out... ...I've a get together this weekend, with all but one of them, in person, as we send of a sib, leaving 20+ years at Foxwoods, for a 2 yr contract at Atlantis, in the Bahamas, and I'll have to bring it up then...on a number of recollections from back in the day, on the finer points I find I need to defer to them and their memories!

We didn't have a lot of issues, our house was the left foul line, neighbors fence right foul line and we had a fence across the entire outfield for HR's but that was pretty distant for little kids. My mother's rock garden behind home plate was out of bounds. My dad even made a pitcher's mound for us. We had a big yard (2 acre lot, which my brother and I had to mow each week) and our entire neighborhood played there.
Haha, I burned out my arm playing pitcher and catcher during the winter. We'd shovel off the mound and home plate and practiced almost every day in our winter coats. I was always the catcher and by the time Freshman year baseball rolled around I couldn't make the throw to 2nd base.
haha2, for memories... Several guys in the neighborhood had Stat-o-matic Baseball. I also had APBA Baseball but preferred Strato. We also had the wind up basketball player to shoot balls into hoops, the hockey game with players on a rod that you would twirl to score goals and the most useless one, a vibrating football field where football players would vibrate all over the place.

Pomeranz looked good tonight.
Maybe we can spot start Velasquez in order to give guys like sale and Pomeranz an extra day rest.

Certainly hearing less complaints about the Pomeranz trade these days.

The Astros had a 7-3 lead in the 7th with men on 2nd and 3rd and no outs, which is a 97.6% chance of winning. But Raul Alcantara pitched out of the jam, and Marcus Semien tied the game with a GS in the bottom of the frame. Josh Reddick put the Astros back on top in the top of the 9th, but Ken Giles couldn't get anyone out in the bottom half, giving up am 0-2 leadoff HR to Boog Powell and a walk-off 1B to Jed Lowrie.
And the Indians thus closed to 1.5 games of the top seed. They seem very likely to pass them, and not just because they're likely the better team; the Indians have 15 games at home and 6 on the road, while the Astros have 9 at home and 13 on the road.
I know that in theory, it's easier to upset a superior team like the Indians in a shorter series. But my gut tells me I'd rather play the Astros in the first round. For one thing, with our big home-field advantage, a 3:2 game split isn't nearly as good as 4:3, and for another, your chances seem much better facing Kluber in 2 games out of 7 rather than 2 out of 5. Those two factors may more than balance the fact that you are likelier to beat them in a 5 game series on sheer luck (as they would have beaten us in 2007) than in a 7 game series.
Meanwhile, if we can pick up 4.5 games on the Astros in the next 17, we can claim the #2 seed by winning 3 of 4 in the final series.

If last year is any indication, Farrell is going to rest players rather than go for the 2 seed.

If last year is any indication, Farrell is going to rest players rather than go for the 2 seed. He really should do that this year, it's extremely unlikely the Red Sox would pass the Astros and the team is pretty worn out as it is. If/when the clinch the division, I fully expect Farrell to rest everyone.

If last year is any indication, Farrell is going to rest players rather than go for the 2 seed. not sure about that. Most likely the division will go into the last week, then the Houston series could mean a lot. it will depend on how CLE - HOU seeding plays out. But i think a determination of the rest this year will be separate from last year. Who knows maybe he will think last years protocols hurt the team. We have the best home record in AL, he may factor that in.

Severino going in to the 8th working on a 1-hitter.
It was an RBI double and the Yankees trail 1-0 in the top of the inning.

And....the Texas bullpen might be the worst in all of baseball... Yeah, they've apparently turned the closer role over to a AA callup, Ricardo Rodriguez, and he's been awful.

I can't see how HOU will be able to stay with CLE. I see us having to play them in the 1st round.
