The homers don't count as BABIP, right? I don't think balls off the Monster should count either if they're uncatchable. Absolutely. Probably the main reason Sox teams and hitters tend to run higher BABIPs than others.

Yankees are tied with the Rays in the 8th. Send good vibes to the Rays.

Absolutely. Probably the main reason Sox teams and hitters tend to run higher BABIPs than others. Too big a can of worms, most parks have walls someplace that a fielder can't reach. They can figure out route efficiencies of outfielders with StatCast, they can figure out what balls are uncatchable too. What I really want to see is an xBABIP stat (expected) based on StatCast data. Then we can see exactly how much luck is involved in BABIP and how much is hardness of contact.

The team has 16 hits and Hanley somehow is 0 for 4

The team has 16 hits and Hanley somehow is 0 for 4 You had to hunt for the dark cloud when we're in the midst of all this silver lining? 😄

Tampa just went up 2-1 bottom 8th. On a Hechavarria home run, just like we all predicted. Thank you Rays! Yankees lose! 4 games up!

Somehow, I don't think Mookie is trying very hard .... to hit for the cycle.

Without trying to open up a huge can here, to me, BABIP is the most useless stat. You would have to assume Tony Gwynn was the luckiest person on the planet to have any faith in BABIP. I get it, everybody's mileage varies here.

I'm just boxscore watching tonight. Would be great to get a Mookie hot stretch at the right time.
Looks like he's throwing a lot of pitches but how does Carson look?

Line drives at over 100 mph should have a batting average of over .700, etc.

It's really a nasty wipeout slider when he throws it right. His command is sorta off.
edit. What Jim said. 😀

That's a no brainer for the organization. Papi is on the Red Sox Mount Rushmore any way you slice it. He gets any job he wants. Edit. For me the others are Ted, Yaz and Pedro.
