What Verlander has been doing this postseason has been almost inhuman. The guy isn't giving up anything.

Lol and he gives up a homerun on the very next batter. I'm always good for a reverse jinx once a week it seems.

Dave Roberts might be the best manager in baseball. He puts Pederson in the lineup who ties the game, he pulls Hill for Maeda and the team continues to pitch well.

Wow, the Astros have done the impossible and got to the best closer in baseball in Jansen.

None of this would've happened if the Red Sox had protected Josh Fields instead of Alex Hassan.

I guess not pull Giles when it was looking more and more obvious that he wasn't going to get the last out? Not that Devenski was any sure thing either but he'll get his chance to close now. This game has been an amazing classic. I thought the Astros were dead. But not only do they get to Kimbrel, they got to Chapman when he was actually back on his game, and now they've gotten the best one of them all - Jansen. When they blew the 5-3 10th inning lead - man that reminded me of Game 6 1986, I thought they were toast - they need to win this game. And if they pull a Game 6 2011 Rangers style, they're done, but they've been "dead" twice this game and they have a real shot at tying the series. But man their pen is lousy.

Giles had struck out Grandal and Barnes, and arguably struck out Forsythe as well. It wasn't like he was laboring. I definitely would have had Giles pitch to Hernandez there.

Wow. That was an incredible game.
Also, huge for the Stros to take a game in LA and even it up. They haven’t lost a game in Houston this month.

That was the one game that I fell asleep for when it was 3-1 Dodgers in the 7th? Damn man. I think that was the first playoff baseball I missed this year.

I am really glad there is an off day today. Last night's game was worth staying up for, but the sleep deprivation is real.

So far this series is scripted to favor the Astros, who took full advantage of this weird weather pattern. It was hotter in LA than in the desert, and just as dry. There was no ocean breeze to thicken the air with humidity. The balls were expected to fly, favoring the power hitting Astros, and they did. A record 8-9 HR? Awesome. A full Chavez Ravine thru an 11 inning 4 hour slugfest. Amazing.
IMO the Dodger home field advantage was minimized due to this rare weather pattern. Going to Minute Maid at 1-1, the Astros now have home field advantage. For discussion sake, because who knows, let's assume they return to L.A. up 3 games to 2. The weather forecast for next week returns to a more normal mid-70's for early November. If this normalized weather lasts for games 6-7, ocean breezes will play a role in that, raising humidity's resistance to batted balls. Game time here is 5:00 pm and sunset is early, which means it could be downright chilly by 6:00, further dampening batted balls. This does not favor the Astros who are less accustomed to cold weather games, although Houston's humidity is legendary. So, games 6-7 could be very interesting with Houston needing just one win, but L.A. finally having a true home field advantage.

I turned on the game in the top of the 8th, man that insanely lucky. What a game, definitely one of the best I've ever seen.

Giles had struck out Grandal and Barnes, and arguably struck out Forsythe as well. It wasn't like he was laboring. I definitely would have had Giles pitch to Hernandez there. Giles' control was vanishing. He was falling behind the hitters and he threw that wild pitch that moved the runner that he walked into scoring position. The inning before he almost surrendered a walk-off HR to Bellinger. At the crack of the bat I thought that ball was gone. I was thinking they should pull him as soon as he wild pitched the tying run to 2b. I probably would have went to Devenski there, but it's not like Devenski has been lights out either, so it was completely defensible to allow Giles to try to finish off the game. As it was Devenski gave up two hard line drive outs in the 11th and surrendered a home run before making a nasty pitch to fan Puig. So I guess I can see the argument both ways. I probably would have pulled Giles and went with Devenski to pitch to Hernandez, but it's not like I would have had a ton of confidence in that decision or think it was a mistake to keep Giles in. Either way the Astros bullpen is frightful. I just have a lot of respect for the way the Astros came back against Kimbrel, Chapman, and Jansen (who is only the 2nd triple digit K/single digit BB guy I can think of other than Koji Uehara in 2013 - which is the mark of a totally dominant reliever)

A collection of Yasiel Puig's most demonstrative takes across the playoffs so far. He added some more unusual behavior in the box last night between some of his bat licks and aggressive bat swings behind his head. I thought he was going to take off the umpire's head at one point. Some of this stuff may rub some people the wrong way, but I have to admit to being very entertained when he is at the plate. He does have a habit though of aggressively glaring in a direction that appears to be at the pitcher sometimes, although in his unique mind, I don't think there is bad intent.
