We all take this game forum and site so seriously and sometimes news comes along that just makes you stop and put things into perspective. Lydia Joy Kimbrel was born November 3rd with a heart defect she's already had an operation and expects to have another one during spring training. Craig Kimbrel spoke of this at the Red Sox Winter Weekend and reported Lydia was doing fine.If the Kimbrell's look in on this site I know along with everybody else wish them the best of luck and good health. If you're looking for more information go to MLB At Bat.

jimed14 just posted about the height of the pitching mound and I just recently posted any time you guys bring up a subject I've got to look it up and if it's interesting I share it with you people.
The pitching mound also called the hill the bump is 60 ft 6 in from the rear point of home plate to the front of the pitching rubber and is elevated 10in from the rest of the playing field. Even as far back as 1893 it was said that the height of the mound might be changed from day-to-day to suit the pitching style of the home team's pitcher. Dodger Stadium was well known for having a notoriously high mound (Sandy Koufax). Finally team settled on a 15 inch Mound but after a incredibly low scoring in 1968 the rules were changed to reduce the mound to the Contemporary 10 inch height.

Question When a team exercises the buy out on a players contract does that money go on next years payroll? Or not? Depends. What are you referring to in particular? If you've got time on your hands, the CBT rules are Article XXIII of the CBA: www.mlbplayers.com/pdf9/5450407.pdfYou just answered this on the JDM thread. Chris Hadfield said "You are mostly correct a player option is considered a guaranteed Year yes but there is a clause that makes it not considered guaranteed" a player option shall not be considered a guaranteed year if the payment the player is to receive if he declines to exercise his option or nullifies the championship season in more than 50% of the base salary payable for that Championship season "So in other words I think a 10 million player option with a five million dollar buyout is not considered a guaranteed year in that case in which case you'd use the buyout value and not count that year" I read in the CBT that a buyout does not count towards the payroll or the AAV. I might be wrong.

Minor complaints: I'm probably picking Shaw over Reddick as my primary DH with Reddick acting as the 4th OF. Our pitching would be atrocious yes, but the list surprisingly excluded Brian Johnson and Hector Velazquez as SP options. Maybe I'm biased toward the guys currently in our system, but I'd almost definitely slot them in ahead of Alcantara and Chris Smith. Heck, I'd be temped to start Justin Haley and Jalen Beeks over those guys too. Workman, Maddox, and Callahan also weren't listed and would get looks from me as middle relief options.

Another great beat writer and analyst in Projo's Tim Britton leaves for the athletic. This really made me sad, him and Brian Mac Pherson are some of the best writers out there.

Another sad day for the Projo. I really miss their "super two" podcasts. But the Athletic seems like a genuine step up, worthy of his talent, so bravo Tim.

I hope these writers know that most people will never pay these monthly subscriptions.

I hope these writers know that most people will never pay these monthly subscriptions. On the other hand, the way to get people to pay them is to make the product worth it. FWIW the Projo is $16/month for an online subscription, which I find high for a newspaper (but I don't live in Providence). The Athletic is $7.99/month, cheaper if you go annual. If there were a Boston edition and they snagged, say, Alex Speier and Chad Finn, I'd sign up today.

I'm tempted in large part due to Brian Robb, up-and-coming Celtics writer. Not a huge Greg Bedard fan back to Globe days but he seems to get some scoops. Also haven't read McAdams in years.

I think it would be considered OCD if I restart the clock on February 15th 2018 for spring training in 2019. That's when I would get worried!

I live in western NY and recently switched to Time Warner cable, from Direct TV.... well, I don't think they have the MLB package.
My fiancee is not gonna be happy, but we might need to switch back.

As long as you're not blacked out that is... It's the same blackout rules for the cable package vs the mlb.tv package. Yes and no. I'm blacked out of 4 teams where I live on MLB.tv, but when I had directv I could still watch 3 of them through local affiliates. When we moved, and tried switching cable companies, for some reason they had a different definition of local affiliates, so even though I was still blacked out of 4 teams, I only had access to watch one of them locally.
