Question When a team exercises the buy out on a players contract does that money go on next years payroll? Or not? Depends. What are you referring to in particular? If you've got time on your hands, the CBT rules are Article XXIII of the CBA: www.mlbplayers.com/pdf9/5450407.pdfThis is what I found so far. Bonuses are counted as payroll for the year they trigger they are not part of the AAV calculation deferred money is part of a total contract value and is included in the luxury tax calculation only the years during which the player is signed to play count for the denominator. Any contract that is obviously an attempt to circumvent luxury tax would be shot down by the office of the commissioner. With that in mind ears are kind of funny. Team and mutual options are not considered guaranteed and not factored into the AAV but player options are treated as if they are guaranteed years for the purpose of calculating AAV unless there's a gigantic buyout this is to prevent teams from offering no-brainer options in an attempt to get around the luxury tax.

I was thinking about this last night. Does anyone know the complexity of Glorius, Kemp, and Chatham’s Injuries last year.

Question; when was the Sox Prospects discussion forum first started? There's been a forum nearly as long as the site's been around. The first forum was on EZBoards, which became Yuku and is apparently now Tapatalk, which is news to me. We moved here in September 2012. (Wow, I REALLY thought it was longer ago than that!) You can still look at it at www.tapatalk.com/groups/redsoxprospects57174/index.php.

This a great site and a great forum with so much baseball information and statistics

My first post was being confused about Jeff Corsaletti going to Greenville but Jacoby Ellsbury going to Lowell. That's hilarious. Equally hilarious is that my third post was a correction on the rosters page that was worded pretty unnecessarily snarkily. Mike and Matt P. might bust a gut laughing about that. (Context: I'm still incredibly OCD about the rosters page.)

My first post, oy, bad calls 10 Dec 2006, 04:19 #2223 hia my first comment so i hope i do this right, lol. i'm ray originally a mass. boy. ( now i'm just old )
i'd rather see the red sox use trading assets to aquire a reliever that has the potential of being a closer immediately, linebrink for example.
by the way i'll bet 2 years from now emart is the red sox closer. i'm very impressed with his rapid developement as a pitcher. amazing that he was a catcher only 3 years ago. he now has 2 additional pitches to go along with his high 90's fastball (with movement). hopefully he will soon have command of all of them.

Vince McMahon announces that he will restart his XFL in 2020.Maybe we can look forward to quality quarterbacks such as Colin Kaepernick Johnny Manziel and RG3. And also a possibility that He Hates Me will coach the New England franchise

Reading on another thread called "2018 Spring Training" created by Addam603 .Addam603 results the entire spring training schedule of Red Sox games to be televised in which he informs us that the first game will be Thursday February 22nd against Northeastern University at 1pm on NESN. Which is only 28 days away.Addam603 ask you a question if anybody knows of any ways to get these games outside of the market. if anyone has that information please pass it on to Addam603.

A report this morning saying that unsigned free agents want to have their own spring training. Can you imagine if one of them gets hurt during spring training and not having a contract but thethe repercussions of that happening. What would Scott Boras do then?

You can still vote on the Potential Breakouts of 2018 Poll thread the discussion part of the thread was locked out so that that wouldn't take away from the Potential Breakouts 2018 thread.
But you can still vote on that thread.

Real cool story that I bumped into today. I ran into a scout from the Braves organization that was inside my barber shop. I heard him talking about Tyler Beede (a kid from my hometown in Auburn Mass). I graduated 2 classes ahead of Beede back in the day (didn't know him personally), but knew who he was.
Anyways, I asked him "wow you're from the Braves organization, you guys got hammered recently, huh?"
He acknowledged it and smiled about it. He joked around about it and said how they can't spend any money for a while.
He talked how kids are being pushed into baseball when they're 11 or 12 years old in baseball in international markets so they can get scouted at the age of 15 and drafted at 16.
We talked about how organizations don't send their players to Venezuela and how teams avoid that country altogether because of the danger in that country.
He talked about how unqualified people are getting hired in organizations at top positions. He mentioned how in other professions that you can get educated and work your way up most of the time. He said in baseball it's "who you know." If you get in good with a bunch of people, you can stick with them for a long time and move around within the game together. Thought that was pretty funny.
We talked about the Braves farm system and how they've been building up arms in trades and how that was probably a smart way of doing things, even if the half arms don't pan out.
Most of all I asked him about Acuna. The top prospect in baseball, I believe. I asked him "who is this guy, is he Griffey Jr.?"
He replied, "No, he's not Griffey but he's probably a better version of Mookie Betts."
I was kind of floored and I said "holy sh*t, you know Mookie was one of the best players in the sport a year ago, right?"
He told me "Yeah, and I think he's got a chance to be better than that. He'll probably be up by June, July or maybe even sooner."
Thought it was a cool story to share here and this is probably the perfect thread to put this in.

LOL to some dumb (ex?) WEEI talking head who called Tom Brady's daughter "an annoying little piss ant". Great way to alienate a regular guest. She's 5.

LOL to some dumb (ex?) WEEI talking head who called Tom Brady's daughter "an annoying little piss ant". Great way to alienate a regular guest. She's 5. Totally stupid. It was Alex Reimer on WEEI. It's amazing how desperate for attention (ratings) these guys are. I wish they'd actually discuss sports, but they're too busy cultivating reality TV type personalities. It would have been nice to get insight from the greatest QB ever, but nope, gotta say something outrageous. My guess is he was told to be outrageous, he was given an indefinite suspension, and when the time is right they'll bring him back apologizing. Very dramatic radio. As an aside, I can't begin to tell you how much I hate reality TV, all the manufactured drama, the dumbing down of America in a way. Then there's the news media trying to capitalize on being the 1st to report a story rather than actually telling the story accurately. As a guy who craves sportstalk it's really disappointing to listen to the stupidity that is WEEI. Then there's Felger and Mazz, playing the roles of two grumpy old men - do they even like sports? It's like they all play roles. You have CHB, Felger, and Mazz playing the old carmudgeons. Callahan is the right wing guy while Tomase is the left wing guy. Alex Reimer is the saucy gay guy persona who just got his "Look at Me!!" moment. It's almost like MTV's Real World shows they manufacture an image of a personality and pit them against each other.

A couple of friends and I saw where news was headed back in the year 2000 or so. So we created a fake website making up fake NHL trades with fake quotes and got reporters to actually use our articles as a source for articles printed in their newspapers. I think we were part of the invention of fake news. But we were mocking how stupid they were for not verifying sources and they were exposed. I thought we were doing a good thing to make them verify their sources but it has only gotten worse and worse since then. It was kinda funny. They even wrote a story about one players' brother calling him about the news and then they threatened to sue us.

From what I can see (internet based), American media is spiraling down. Sensationalism is more important than actual facts. Bottom line, anybody that takes a public forum and dumps on a five year old should never have that privilege again. A career flipping hamburgers sounds in order.
I'm blessed, I actually don't know what reality TV is although I've seen the expression. LOL, don't care that I don't know either.
