Some Red Sox domination there.

This, plus all the recent BP grousing, makes letting 40S Kimbrel walk a truly short sighted proposition. Much easier and cheaper to get an excellent 8th inning guy to support this future HOF into his dotage. And build the Pen around them (the roles Smith and Thornburg were supposed to have had). Kimbrel states he and his wife like it here, and want also to stay here for their daughter's sake. Several more years of Kimbrel, plus a new 8th inning monster, plus some combination of Barnes, Brasier, Workman, Thornburg, Poyner, Wright, Eovaldi, Velasquez or Johnson, plus exciting new arms like Feltman and Lakins would seem the most effective and cost efficient way to have a top Pen for short and long term. Kinsler and Moreland rankings really shouldn't surprise me, but they did. Moreland is signed for 2019. Who will platoon with him, Pearce again at age 38, Chavis, Ockimey, Dalbec? How about Kinsler as the RHB 1B platoon with MM and backup/insurance for Pedey. Will he be too expensive? He can probably get a starting job somewhere. I know, talking 2019 is weird, but these eye of the beholder rankings are thought provoking. Don't get me wrong. I'd like Kimbrel to return and will be happy if he does, but given what the Red Sox have coming down the pike, the likelihood of them keeping Kimbrel and signing at least 2 of their 3 key free agents (Sale, Bogaerts, Porcello) after the 2019 season and having the money to sign Betts after 2020 is kind of unlikely. They're already at 240 million and need to allocate a lot more annual $/year for upcoming free agents plus arbitration soon for JBJ, Betts, and eventually Benintendi and E-Rod. And as far as Kinsler goes it would not make sense to sign him as a RHB 1B platoon. His bat wouldn't play up as a platoon 1b and it's a waste of his best asset, which is strong defense at 2b. Odds are more likely that Kinsler lands a starting gig elsewhere making more money than what the Sox would want to spend. It's possible the Sox bring back Pearce if the price is right, but he might want a couple of years and the Sox might not want to commit 2 years if they feel Chavis will be up soon.

Sale is top 3 in the league in every one of his pitching categories, including all three pitches he throws. A lot like Pedro. I guess endurance wasn’t a factor

I know I'm asking the wrong crowd but why is there even a debate on who should win the AL Rookie of the year between Andujar and Ohtani? Ohtani is a better hitter, a better runner and he also happen to have ace stuff on the mound. Also the fact that Andujar is such a butcher at 3rd base cancel the fact that Ohtani has only been DHing. The dude is a once in a lifetime talent and should easily win the award imo.

I personally think Torres is far better than Andujar since he has put up almost the same numbers in about 30 less games. But the NL ROY race between Soto and Acuna is far more interesting to me. Those are two great players.

This sucks:
Ken Rosenthal Verified account #Rockies’ Trevor Story facing potential UCL damage in right elbow, sources tell The Athletic. Exact diagnosis not yet known.

No teenager has ever put up the numbers Soto has put up this season.

Juan Soto is the most exciting baseball talent I've watched since Betts arrived on the scene. He has all the tools including an understanding of the strike zone that is unreal, and bat control that few players ever develop - and he's a teenager! This is a kid the Nats should break the bank for.

Russell is disgusting. We need to stop letting guys like this have a second chance in baseball.

That's a very sad read, just to give anyone a heads up before going in. It's also a sobering reminder to be thankful for the one you love and the stories you shared, it's something we sometimes take for granted because not living in an abusive relationship is theoretically the standard. But is it really?

Shaw just hit his 30th HR of the season, his second season with 30+ dingers. That Thornburg trade will end in the trades hall of shame lol

Adrian Beltre with classy send off in Texas today. For all the trades, etc., I will always see him as the number-1 one-who-got-away players. Sox were fools not to resign him.

Didi Gregorius with cartilage tear in his (I think) left wrist. He says he might try to play through it, but he may be done for the year. Tough luck for the Yankees, but if he's out, it sure weakens them, and makes one wonder who you'd really want to win an A's/Yankees play-in game.

The alternate history where we re-sign him is complicated. We don't get Swihart with the first of the two compensation picks, and we very likely don't get JBJ with the second.
(They took Owens at #36 and JBJ at #40, and it's theoretically possible that JBJ was higher on their board and hence would have gone at #36 if they didn;t have both picks. That's what you'd do if you knew that none of the teams drafting 37, 38, or 39 wanted JBJ, while one or more had an interest in Owens. But the Rangers at #37 passed over JBJ to take a college outfielder ranked #86 (JBJ was #34), Zach Cone, paying him a bit under slot. Could we have known they were planning to do that? The Rays then took a HS SS ranked #65, and the Phillies a HS OF ranked #75. Owens was ranked directly ahead of JBJ at 33 and I strongly suspect they took Owens over JBJ, and then were delighted that three straight teams passed over him.)
We also don't trade Anthony Rizzo et al to get Adrian Gonzalez. The 2011 team is about two wins weaker with Beltre at 3B and Youk at first, so the collapse happens sooner.
How do we dump the Crawford and Beckett contracts, then? I think it's likely by trading Rizzo, who would have been taking over at 1B for a struggling Youk.
What else? Re-signing Beltre would have blocked Middlebrooks and we would probably have traded him as the #51 prospect in MLB the same winter, rather than Rizzo as the #75. Although you can say for simplicity's sake that whatever we got for WMB is what we sent the Dodgers instead of A-Gon.
We would never have signed Sandoval. They wouldn't have had a successor to Ellsbury for 2014 and onward and you have three years of a vacancy before Manny Margot is ready, and then maybe you don't have Kimbrel.

Improved his plate discipline substantially, posting by far the best walk rate of his career (13%) and by far the best K-rate (18%). He's hit to almost identical ISO as his career best last year (.238 right now). Only thing that his dropped his slash line a little bit is by far the lowest BABIP he's posted at any professional level of baseball (.241). This year should be even more encouraging for Shaw going forward...
