It seems like Stephen Wright has a really long way back to make this team. Or is it Steven Wright?

I hope they let Johnson go as long as he can. It's not like he'll be in the rotation all year. He shouldn't need to be protected.

I would have liked to see Johnson go one more inning, but he did work hard to get out of the last inning.
Mookie bomb.

What an outing, though. Lots of grounders, some K’s, around the plate, and 6 innings with 82 pitches. It’s only one time through, but the rotation has been excellent. I’d like to see Cora try to squeeze one more out of Johnson.

I don't know if it is just me, but when they show Cora, he does look totally chill. He definitely has a plan.

Still, another terrific SP performance for the Sox. If Velazquez/Johnson are your 7/8, it looks like you’ve got a pretty damn good rotation. I’m getting overly (but I don’t think irrationally) excited about the pitching from the Sox this year. I hate to think about an injury, but if anyone goes down (provided it’s not a major issue), I think they’ll be able to roll with it. And don’t anyone try to rebut me with names. No jinxes here...that’s why I said “major issue.”

Cora looks like a veteran, he always had that thing about him that you just knew he'd be a great manager. It's very early of course, but I'm very happy the FO hired him (even though it cost the job of my main man Farrell and I'll defend him to death).

I hope they let Johnson go as long as he can. It's not like he'll be in the rotation all year. He shouldn't need to be protected. Given the fact that Johnson is their current fourth starter, this makes no sense from a baseball perspective. Given Johnson's public struggles with anxiety, it's borderline sociopathic.

I wasn't talking 110 pitches, but around 100 pitches should have been in reach. Eduardo is about to throw a 6 inning rehab start soon and Pomeranz I'm sure isn't too far behind him. Edit- Johnson has already thrown a complete game since his anxiety problems. I don't know what any of that has to do with anything.

Just as I compliment Nunez, he botches a double play ball for a single. Hanley swung at a pitch near his head on a *3-0* count for a weak infield pop up. This is why Hanley aggrivates me. I know it's coming. You all can rag on me now lol. We are going to call this one the Pedro double. All good...friend.

It's the "he shouldn't need to be protected" line, and the way it lines up with your constant attitude that pitchers should be pushed to the breaking point. You talked all last summer that Sale was a "horse" who Farrell wasn't going deep enough into games with; you bitched and moaned that they weren't pushing Addison Reed hard enough in a game when he'd pitched the two previous days and was unavailable, under the belief that they shouldn't worry about pushing him past the breaking point because he was a free agent and him breaking wasn't their problem. It's a bad way to view baseball players.

I don't know why pushing a 6th starter when your 4 and 5 starters are coming back really soon has anything to do with this. I don't know how Johnson's anxiety problems have anything to do with anything. He has already pitched a complete game since returning. I want to protect the bullpen for the rest of the year.

I wasn't wrong about Reed. OH MY ISUFHPIUWDFL KWJ GOD Even after all this time it hasn't occurred to you that the reason he didn't break down was BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T PITCH HIM WHEN HE WAS FATIGUED?! This is nuts. Every pitcher to you who breaks down was pushed too hard, and every pitcher who doesn't wasn't pushed hard enough, and the evidence he wasn't pushed too hard was that he didn't break down. Christ.

He could have went 7 innings and around 100 pitches and would have been probably fine. He's not staying in the rotation for much longer.

It is a new era for managers and player considerations. The days of Cal Ripken and complete games are over, and they aren't coming back. I think it is overall good for the players. Their health and the rigors of playing major sports are starting to take precedent. They are open about depression and mental health, as well as physical injuries (see khawi Leonard). Teams and managers have to look at it differently. I just hope this archaic 25 man rule is done at some point. Teams should be able to use extra players, if needed, given a system where 1 team won't have an extreme advantage.

How did you know he was fatigued? Reed pitched 3 days in a row 3 different times with the Mets last year. Yet he comes to the Sox and he's incapable of pitching 3 days in a row. Sorry. Not buying it. He was fine. Edit- Sometimes you need to push. Sometimes you need to hold back. It's not a black and white issue here.

Because. He. Was. Unavailable. Due. To. Fatigue.
The fact that you still think 8 months later that you know better than Addison Reed and the Red Sox coaches about Addison Reed's fatigue level is why people (and more specifically, me) aren't giving you the benefit of the doubt on Johnson.
