They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Sabathia was scheduled for Thursday, but he left his last start and has gone onto the DL with a hip injury. They had an off day yesterday, so it's possible they'll skip that spot and go to Sonny Gray. Otherwise it will be either Luis Cessa or Domingo German.

I heard it was Gray but have no link to back that up right now. I feel like I heard it on MLB network though.

It may be early but the nyfy, fans and media at least, are anxious for their team to beat up on the Sox and demonstrate who's boss. Yes, injuries to CC and Bird hurt them. But not as much as injuries to Pom, ERod, Wright, Maddox, Pedey, Hernandez and now XB should be hurting the Sox. It would be awesome for the Sox to win this series, but not heartbreaking if they don't. That was difficult to say.

Actually, it's pretty hard to argue that Boston's injury situation is much worse than the Yankees'. They've got four outfielders on the DL, meaning that Jace Peterson is starting in LF with Hicks, McKinney, Frazier, and Ellsbury all on the DL. They've lost both starting corner infielders in Drury and Bird. And there's Sabathia. For me, I'd probably take the Red Sox' injury situation over the Yankees, and at the very least, they're close. At least most of the Red Sox injuries have been minor - Rodriguez only missed one start, Pomeranz is only going to wind up missing 3 or so, Bogaerts will only be down for about 2 weeks. The comparable situation for the Red Sox to the Yankees OF would be if they also lost, say, two more from the Nunez-Holt-Lin group and had to call Ivan De Jesus up to start at 2B or something.

The Sox should take 2 out of 3 in this series. I'm not saying this to be a homer too. It's what the Sox should do while the Yankees are down and the Sox are at home.

Sale vs. Severino is must-watch, obviously. But Price-Tanaka is a hell of an undercard.

I'm interested to see how Carson Smith will be used against Stanton and Judge in the late innings. His season has been a real struggle to keep the ball down and he's been having a tough time throwing strikes too. However, Smith's slider seems perfect against Stanton and Judge. I wouldn't want say Poyner to come in and face those two, even though I like Poyner.

Maybe leaving a couple more pitches than usual up and to the arm side there in the zone. The bigger issue seems to be not being able to find the bottom of the zone, looking at these. (Left is 2018, right is 2015, his last healthy season.)

And Holt is in the starting lineup as the SS. Devers moves up to the 5th spot, followed by Nunez, then JBJ, then Bradley, and then Holt batting 9th.
If Farrell was still the manager there's no way Holt would be batting 9th.

Holt shouldn't be in the line-up. Cold night, two very good starters, odds are high that this should be a low scoring game. If so defense will be even more valuable.
So it's still a half a Farrell move.

Any day now Bradley is going to go on one of his blazing-hot streaks. Today would be ideal.

Surprised Jerry hasn't shown up saying how much he wants the Yankees to choke tonight. Was looking forward to that.

How do you like that? An honest manager.
In a WEEI.com article Alex Cora admitted that he messed up during Sunday afternoon's game when he didn't defense for JD Martinez in the 9th inning.
He had been caught up in the comeback and neglected to put JBJ in the game and move Benintendi back to LF. Instead of coming up with a reason why he kept JDM in LF, he chose to be honest about what he felt (as did others) was a mistake.
No harm - no foul in this case, but it's a good quality in a manager to be honest. Everybody makes mistakes. He's aware of it and I'm sure he'll learn from it and it'll pay off down the road.
Nothing wrong with a manager who makes relatively minor mistakes and then learns from them.

I can't remember anticipating a Sox Yankee series so much this early in a season.

Stanton currently looks like the world's biggest 8 year old swinging the bat

Really missing Xander in the lineup already, but great to see pressure on Severino early.

Getting only one run would be really disappointing here.

J.D. Martinez just missed another homerun. That's 2 so far in the year, I counted.
