Mitch Moreland should have picked that ball on that Devers' throw. He isn't impressive at picking balls in the dirt. Lou Merloni said he doesn't set up right to receive throws. He doesn't stretch. Costs some infield hits. Merloni did about 10 minutes on it one night on TV showing the correct way & then tape of Mitch. But hey, he's a Gold Glover.

Sox need a run in the 9th. They're averaging 6.35 runs / game. A below average performance is just NOT acceptable.

Nice, Smith is getting a chance through the heart of the order. I want to see what he's got here. They got lucky by stumbling on the perfect opportunity to truly test him, but in low leverage ... but a lot of managers would have missed that opportunity. He looked good. Sox need a run here to match the '81 A's 65 run differential through 18 games.

JBJ is the 10th player in MLB history to go 0/0, HBP on his birthday. It happened to Mike Greenwell in 1993.

Message to the City of the Oakland. There is a hitting contagion coming home your city. Take all necessary precautions and stay indoors.

Sorry. Completely unintentional. Ohh I don't care. I thought it was funny. That's fortunate. I was lying. :-) How much fun is this? It's impossible to keep playing at this level but DAMN it's fun while it lasts!

At the risk of being repetitive, how the {bleep} do you know this stuff? Baseball Reference's Play Index, which is a $36 annual subscription service. I remembered that they had a [] Birthday (Yes, No, Either) check box for their game finder. I was shocked that he was the 10th guy. JBJ is the first guy to enter as a pinch-runner and have this happen, so it's appropriate that he got hit in the foot.

In this 7-game win streak, they've trailed just once, when they were down 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th in the Sunday O's game. IOW, Chris Sale is the ony Sox pitcher to have pitched while trailing in more than a week.

Also, they averaged exactly one run per inning while beating a team that entered this series with the best run differential in baseball (and a 13-3 record on a 7-game win streak), while giving up an average of one run per game.
Wow, is this ever a good team. And they’ve got legit reinforcements coming in Pomeranz, Bogey, Pedey, and maybe even Thornburg. Just...wow.
