To say that the team defense will greatly improve when Pedroia comes back and Nunez is no longer playing 2B cannot be emphasized enough. I kind of hope he's traded because he's unplayable at 2nd. Note to self: as a free agent signing, Nunez has a no-trade until June 15 Note to self: Kelly is available again on Wednesday

So we lose five of seven and the game day thread is barren.

I'm not a huge fan of the Sox' "take strikes and swing at balls" plate approach today.

I'll finish your quote - "This team stinks - right now and for the past week". The team overall is quite good and barring major health issues should win between 95 - 100 games. The problem is that if this team is on the lower end of that window, they'll be in the Wild Card Game. They'll have to be on the upper end of that range to avoid the Wild Card game. I get Tampa is hot somehow, but that team really sucks and at home the Sox should be smacking them around. Stuff in baseball happens, but getting swept by this Rays team at home is something to be embarrassed about. And losing a 7.5 game lead to the MFYs in about 10 days is another thing to be embarrassed about. Play with that lead like you own it. The past week has featured little offense, mediocre pitching, bad defense, and stupid baserunning.

This game is over with our non existent offense.
I would be glad to be proven wrong.

if we lose 3 games with Sale, Price and Porcello toeing the rubber.....well....that would be about as unexpected outcome as anyone could have thought.
We could also be seeing the ramifications of 2 clubs that have played too friggin often for this early in the year, vis a vis, they got some information from all our matchup's and are using it with great effect.
We need someone else besides Nunez in the field, he is really bad. JBJ acting like he was firing that in from the centerfield wall. Damn this is frustrating.

Or maybe this team is simply playing like s***. Kind of like they were soaring too high and the thoughts of this could be the 1998 Yankees started to creep in, and this is reality saying, hey you're a really, really good team, but you're not THAT good. I hate the way they're playing, but I think the talent is mostly there, as much as any other Sox team I've watched. The lineup at the bottom is a bit of a concern. If Pedroia comes back healthy enough and not diminished like Nunez, that fixes the defense at 2b and provides a stronger bat in the #7 spot. The failure of the Sox to give Swihart a real look costs this team the possibility of having another strong bat at the bottom of the order and with Swihart getting no catching chances and wasting away on the bench, his bat also rots. They've totally screwed up with him. I certainly hope the Sox can beat up on the Royals and whack the Rangers' lousy pitching around.

This lineup looks paltry today, not going to lie. Its pretty inexcusable to be swept by the Rays at home.

LHP has been the kryptonite of offense.

I don't complain much but I think Cora should pinch hit in situations that could mean the game more often, when you have guys like Mookie on the bench you have to take advantage. I like the idea of resting guys but there are different ways to do it.

I love Cora and the work he's been doing for this team but batti.g Nunez leadoff is inexcusable. I came here specifically to vent my frustration over that. Nunez had an OBP well under .300 coming in and a career mark around .320-something if I recall correctly. He’s also not the speed threat he was a year or two back because of the knee. With Betts out Cora really oughtve maximized the lineup efficiency because Mookie’s been half the offense anyway, and on top of that they’ve struggled to score lately.

The pitchers must really like him. Yeah, Kimbrel I'm sure loves him stopping wild pitches. Saved a run.
