Lenny Torres to the Indians. Knew it was highly unlikely, but was hoping he'd be there for the Sox second pick.

As far as rankings go I have him at 2. I think our system is horrible. I am also not worried about position on our club, because I do not see him playing for us unless he is elite. I'll be positive now. He'll be a 1B in the majors. Hopefully a really good one. We need talent and more talent. I like the pick! I expect a quick sign too. It sounds like we were expected to take him unless he was already drafted. It means if he passes his physical he'll sign, because we know his price. He'll be near slot. Way too early though.

There are some high picks available for the Yankees who might be aggressive this round. I hoped that Wilcox and Rocker would have been gone by now.

Mike, perhaps you can give a reason why the Red Sox would want to try a guy who is at age 18 years 4 months is 6' 4" 238, before he's fully grown into his body, and probably is looking at 6' 5' 275 when he's 22-25, at 3B? He's way too big to play 3B at other than a butcher level. Besides, your current 3B in Boston, Devers, although slumping in the last 3 weeks, is still on a 25-30 HR pace at age 21! Devers is only 3 years older than this high school kid. I don't see it long term unless Devers flames out. You also have Bobby Dalbec as a possible 3B and maybe Chavis if he gets off PED's. Hard to see a path for this kid at 3B. Much more likely 1B/DH (which since 1974 is a real position despite what the purists still continue to argue against). You can always use a slugger at 1B or DH. If this kid can hit and is not the next Chris Davis, they might have something here in 3 years. I'll go with "why not?" Also you start him as far up on the defensive spectrum as possible in case he sticks. And you never worry about a guy on your MLB club being at a position when talking about a guy as far away as Casas. He's likely at least 4 years away from MLB. A lot can happen in that time. Also, why would you project an 18-year-old to put on 40 pounds? It's not like he's a 16yo they signed out of VZ. Hope I don't have to change my name to Tristoncasasbelly in 10 years

He is a tank. I live near where he goes to HS and saw him last Saturday. He walked by me and that was the first thing i noticed: STRONG looking kid. Saw his team play the #2 team in NJ and he went 3-3 with a walk. His team plays in the NJ State Semifinals tomorrow, but the game is too far away for me to see. I'll see them if his team makes the State Finals this Saturday or Sunday i will see him play again. NJ gets a bad rap, especially South Jersey. There is/has been, a lot kids going to D-1 schools in the last few years from South Jersey. I think it's really picked up since Mike Trout got drafted as far as kids from South Jersey going D-1.

First Round (No. 26 Overall): Triston Casas, 1B, American Heritage (Fla.) School A smooth left-handed stroke and 55-grade power make Casas the top first base prospect in this class. Despite his limited defensive profile, he is a solid athlete, as he has played primarily third base as a high schooler while also touching 92 mph as a pitcher. The biggest question is whether he'll make enough contact, but he has shown a plan at the plate. He was rumored as high as No. 13 overall to the Marlins, so this is a good get for a Red Sox team that was focused on adding a bat. Grade: A Second Round (No. 64 Overall): Nick Decker, OF, Seneca (N.J.) HS A strong 6'1", 200-pound frame and plus raw power put Decker on the prospect map. He'll need to refine a swing that can get long at times if he's going to develop into the power hitter the Red Sox are hoping for, and he's essentially a finished product physically. Grade: C bleacherreport.com/articles/2779408-2018-mlb-draft-picks-live-team-by-team-day-1-grades-and-analysis#slide4

www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1554002Red Sox 1st-rounder Casas criticizes Sandoval, plans to stay in shape Michael Bradburn 42m ago Alex Trautwig / Major League Baseball / Getty SECAUCUS, NJ - JUNE : Triston Casas poses for a photo with Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. after being selected 26th overall by the Boston Red Sox during the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft at Studio 42 at the MLB Network on Monday, June 4, 2018 in Secaucus, New Jersey. The first-round selection of the Boston Red Sox is endearing himself to the Fenway faithful already, as Triston Casas plans on sticking at the hot corner by staying agile, unlike a certain Boston third baseman. After being selected with the 26th overall pick, Casas didn't mince words, specifically calling out Pablo Sandoval. "Obviously watch my weight," Casas replied when asked what he'd have to do to stay at third base, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. "There was another third baseman in Boston called Sandoval who had some problems. Just stay agile, continue to take a lot of ground balls and keep doing my thing." Sandoval signed a five-year, $95-million deal with the Red Sox as a free agent prior to 2015. Ultimately, the infielder affectionately referred to as "Kung Fu Panda" did not play that contract out, as the Red Sox designated him for assignment during the 2017 season. Casas, 18, whose value at the plate is what made him a first-rounder, has had his defense criticized by some scouts, with his path to the majors perhaps on the other side of the infield at first base.

What are some recent all bat, no defense, college players? Schwarber, Zack Collins come to mind. I can’t think of too many other recent first rounders. Chris Shaw from BC went (31?) a few years back. Yeah, there aren’t many.

Liberatore makes a lot of sense for the Rays. They have 3 extra picks at #31, #32 and #71. I think he's gonna be pretty damn good. Another terrific arm for the Rays. Guess karma owed them for spring training. Terrific pick and great call on the financial aspect...def makes it easy for them, low-risk.

Casas? My updated wishlist (although I didn't anticipate Jackson Kowar to be on the board): My wishlist (excluding consensus Top 15 guys): 1. Mason Denaburg – HS (FL) – RHP 2. Connor Scott – HS (FL) – CF 3. Logan Gilbert – Stetson – RHP 4. Greyson Jenista – Wichita St. – RF 5. Anthony Seigler – HS (GA) – C6. Xavier Edwards – HS (FL) – SS/2B 7. Nick Schnell – HS (IN) – CF 8. Trevor Larnach - Oregon St. – OF 9. Grayson Rodriguez – HS (TX) – RHP 10. Triston Casas – HS (FL) – 1B You’re bolder than me putting a pitcher up top. I’m psyched for Casas, although I’m a little disappointed they didn’t take Edwards. But Casas has a monster bat, and a pretty good arm. Wouldn’t shock me if they tried him at 3b for a bit, maybe move him later if Devers is entrenched. He’s gonna Big Papi-style the Wall.

If this kid can hit and is not the next Chris Davis, they might have something here in 3 years. 1) You develop a player at the most valuable defensive position until he proves he can’t play there anymore. That’s basic common sense, and it improves the trade value of that player, since the bat plays up. 2) You’re predicting final h/w that may or may not be accurate. Most males reach their maximum height by 21, but some may stop earlier. He may also fill out, most do, but that may not happen until his late 20s. So see (1) again. As a point of contrast about generalizing on size, Kris Bryant is 6’5”, 230. He was almost assuredly a better athlete in HS, but given professional-level coaching some credit. Casas could improve significantly (Bryant did post-draft). 3) All expectations are that Devers will be entrenched. He should be awesome. But in the advent of a leg injury, regression, or some other catastrophe, it’s better to have a 3b in the pipeline than a 1b who maybe could’ve played 3b It’s just common sense unless for some reason he were completely blocked from 3b playing time (if, say, they’d signed a Devers-level 3b IFA last year and they had to split time in the GCL) Edit: just saw Chris beat me to it

Looks like the draft approach this year is more about ceiling than floor. Makes sense. Decker looks more impressive to me than Brannen did. If nothing else, the kid has a hose already. In one of the videos he throws deep home from deep right without hitting the ground. Means nothing if he can't hit, but that's a Dewey Evans hose,
