14: Red Sox take Nicholas Lucky, 2B from Cocalico HS. He's probably got an unsustainable BABIP number.

From Kiley McDaniel's chat:
Mike 12:52 Thoughts on how far overslot Casas and Decker will be? Seems the Sox went pretty conservative on Day 2. Kiley McDaniel 12:52 I believe Casas just a bit and would guess Decker was close to slot

Is it just me or do the Red Sox seem to draft an inordinately high number of sub-6’ players? It's worked out very well for them in the past. I think it's a situation where other teams worry more about how tall hitters are and the Red Sox don't so the best available ones on their board tend to be short (because other teams avoided them). Like I've said before, if they're 6'3" then Pedroia and Bradley are first-round picks, Bradley goes in the top 15, Benintendi goes in the top 2.

More perhaps in line with your observation: they seem less bothered by the relatively small sized players than other teams. The only place I feel mild concern is with under-sized pitchers. But... as you say, a guy from Texas who throws mid-90s and is 5’11” is a day 3 pick. If he were 6’5”, he’d be day 1.

Like the Northcut pick. Honestly would have preferred a pitcher since they already went pretty heavy on bats early (though I guess pitching may be a fall back for him anyways?), and who knows what the demands are for the remaining big name pitchers out there. I'm assuming they have some feelers out to Northcut already and know what type of money he's looking for.

16: Red Sox take Christopher Machamer, U Kentucky RHP. Announced as a reliever.
Ranked #253 by BA and #390 by PG.
BA write-up:
Chris Machamer 4YR RHP Notes: School: Kentucky Ht: 6-2 | Wt: 210 | B-T: R-R | Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted Scouting Report: Machamer stepped in as the setup man to 2017 sixth-round pick Logan Salow as a true freshman. After Salow left, Machamer went from solid setup man to dominating closer. He showed an ability to work multiple innings although he's rarely worked on back-to-back days because of that. Machamer's velo ticked up from the low 90s to touch more 94s and 95s as the season wore on. He throws plenty of strikes with an average fastball, setting up an above-average slider that has good late break and an average changeup. As a draft-eligible sophomore, Machamer has leverage if he opts to return to Kentucky, but his stuff is good enough for a team to consider spending to land him.

I live in KY. Machamer throws gas, slider is great pitch, gets lots of Ks. I believe he developed a forearm problem late in the season and did not pitch which is a reason UK missed the NCAA tourney. Anyway, Cottam had a great year, primarily played first all year. He lead UK offensively all season. Selfishly, hope Machamer comes back to UK.

For those that listened to Bannister on Bradford's podcast, he stressed how hard it was to find guys in the draft with all the traits that you look for in a starter. Its pretty astounding how the sox have seemingly focused on bats and relief arms in this draft. Who starts next year from this draft? Thad Ward and maybe Brian Brown (as a Matt Kent org type)?

Don't have much info on him other than he had insane numbers this year.

Another one from Kiley's chat:
Kiaan 1:25 Have you heard anything on Nick Northcut's $$$ demand? Red Sox just picked him in the 11th after going heavy under slot yesterday so they must think they can sign him. Kiley McDaniel 1:26 Don't know the number but I know he was seen as a likely college guy, so it's not insignificant

I'm assuming they have some feelers out to Northcut already and know what type of money he's looking for. I thought, other than Vasil, Northcut would be the toughest, of the top 100 still available, to be drafted and forgo his Vandy commit. I figured it would be one of the UF commits to get drafted. Being the first pick of day 3 says to me he's the first choice to get all of the over slot money the Sox will have available. If not him then some other HS kid whose strong commitment could be swayed. I like this pick.
