Good job by Bradley. I'd pinch hit Benny for Vasquez though with a guy on 3rd one out. Benny has been slumping lately. I wouldn't. Either him or Bogey then. I only chose Benny because he's lefty. It could have been Moreland for all I cared (health willing of course). I just didn't want Vasquez batting with a guy on 3rd and 1 out in a 1 run game with a full bench available. I'd have even pinch hit for E-rod if Vasquez walked.

Ok for the love of the spaghetti monster in the sky, why in the hell did they pinch hit Benny for E-rod with 2 out and not Vasquez with 1 out?

Should have 100% pinch hit for Vazquez before E-Rod. Take the walk.

Unusual way to get those 2 runs, but feels damn good, nonetheless.

I don't mind that Cora didn't pinch hit for Vasquez. I am happy he did for E Rod. Vasquez has a simple job there, that he failed is not the Cora's fault. With ERod not going past another inning, I think the pinch hit is just fine.

He did not know Vasquez was going to fail, before he failed. The Benny pinch hit is to try and score the run. I think it is fine if you wanted to pinch hit for Vasquez, but that really has nothing to do with EROd, who was probably going to get pinch hit for anyway.

I think you can reasonably predict that just about anyone else would have a higher chance of succeeding there than Vasquez. You may not know that he was going to fail before he failed, but you can have a pretty good idea. I guess you can say that I knew he was going to fail because I've been yelling that it was a horrible idea before it happened. I'd much rather try to score the run with 1 out than 2, because Benny could at least hit a hard line drive and get an rbi with 1 out on a sac fly that he couldn't have gotten if there were two outs.

For Cora, he's big on letting players who are getting a day off to get a day off. So he probably didn't want Leon coming into the game. The upgrade from Vazquez to another hitter that was going to get walked wasn't enough for him. Plus there are two more innings and you could run out of bench players since this is an NL game. The only option was to PH Leon for Vazquez unless you wanted to burn through 3 bench players in two batters.

I understand that war takes a lot of things into consideration and one of them is defensive position but JD is having close to a triple crown season and his war is 3.5 and there are 11 players ahead of him. That is crazy, to me. The positional adjustment for DH is wrong, as it completely ignores that's it's tougher to hit as a DH, just as it's tougher to punch-hit. Sean Foreman of b-Ref, at this year's SABR Convention Statistical Analysis Committee meeting, acknowledged that it might be and said they're looking into fixing it.
In this case, though, it would only add about 0.2 WAR. Which would put him on pace for a 6.9 WAR season. That's good.
It's also true that JDM has the lowest DRS (-6) of the 70 most valuable guys in MLB.

I agree, and I think they were punting this game from the beginning (ie not really trying to win). I just felt that they should try to win this game while they (unexpectedly?) had the chance, and letting Vasquez hit with a runner on 3rd and 1 out with a 1 run lead did not strike me as the best strategy for winning games.

That is the question.

Just got back from a nice long kayak on a nearby lake - liking the score here. Glad they are done with this series - I am blacked out on mlb.com It's Kimbrel time (though a few more runs in top 9th would be swell). Happy 4th, everyone!

106 mph line drive double for JBJ. Exactly what was always getting caught in June.
