Fred Lynn twitter pic. Anyone remember this outfield ?, lol. ![](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DiFZoujWkAAvC5B.jpg) Forever young ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) That was the outfield I started watching when I was a kid although I only saw Lynn's final season in Boston. Also, I'd like to echo Jerry Garciaparra and thank all those who shared memories of growing up Red Sox. Really great stories. The Sox have had some awesome OF units, from Lewis/Speaker/Hooper to Williams/Piersall/Jensen to Yaz/Smith/Tony C to Rice/Lynn/Evans. I remember the game that hooked me for good on the Red Sox. Found out thru baseball reference that it occurred on 5/31/80. I remember the Sox hitting 4 homers in an inning, Stapleton, Fisk, Perez, and Hobson. And they still got their butts kicked by Milwaukee 19-8 (my memory thought it was 18-9). But I was hooked. Now my little boy is getting interested in watching some of the games. He saw Bogaerts' walkoff grandslam (he loves grandslams and he is always looking for double plays even when there's nobody on base or two outs in an inning)

Impressive first half by the Red Sox. However injuries are starting to pile up and the lack of organizational depth could impact the second half results and potentially put the team into a one game playoff. I don’t think you can count on Pedroia or rely on Holt or Nunez to fill in adequately at 2nd base as both of them have limitations both offensively and defensively which get exposed the more they play. Not sure if Philips is the answer, however it might be worth seeing what he has the next couple of weeks before the July 31 non waiver trading deadline.

Why not give Jalen Beeks more of a chance in the rotation over someone like Brian Johnson? At this point, we know what Johnson is, but I feel as though there is real upside to Beeks.

I mean, Benny is on bereavement and Devers is expected back after the break. I could be wrong, but I think E-Rod is also expected back right after the break, Pedroia I've heard is getting healthy and the team believes they have the injury figured out, and I'm in favor of trying Swihart at the plate over Vazquez anyways.

The Sox aren't looking for upside, they are looking for the pitcher who gives them the best chance to win. Johnson has really useful all year, Beeks has shown that he might not be ready to dance in the big leagues yet.

Eduardo has been put on the DL. I thought he hadn't, but I checked the transactions page and Sam Travis got called back up.
I wonder what that does for the rotation after the allstar break?

Xander is playing good defense at short. Hitting for a solid average and hitting for power. While Benintendi got robbed from the all star game, Xander has been as good as Machado or Segura.

Give JD credit there. He is not a great base runner, but he was able to avoid that rage while staying in the base path.

I saw a game against the A's where Ricky Henderson stole base #123 (1982). Tony Perez tied Joe DiMaggio for career HRs in that game when he pinch hit for Gary Allenson. I also loved watching Mark Clear pitch the 9th with that crazy curve ball. Mike Torrez didn't make it out of the 1st inning which was fitting because I always hated him. I didn't get to go to many games, but I do have a vivid memory of the games I saw. I looked it up and found the box score: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS198208300.shtmlI always imitated Dewey's batting stance which changed quite a bit over the years. He hit 2 HR in that game.

We are getting the X we always wanted. What a thrill !! IMO, he fits nicely in the complementary superb player role (if that makes sense). I am so happy he is getting some big hits and playing excellent D (I don't care what his DRS says)

I'm more worried about the pitch count than I am the runs. We need outs from Johnson to give our bullpen a chance.

I'm more worried about the pitch count than I am the runs. We need outs from Johnson to give our bullpen a chance. Why? Today is the last game before the all star break. It’s not like there is a game tomorrow. Even if you wanted to give the top set up guys (Hembree, Barnes, and Kelly) a rest, Poyner, Bannister, Thornburg, Workman, Kimbrel all could work today. This is traditionally a bullpen game because the relievers will get rest following the game.

E-Rod get back soon. Johnson is okay as a swingman, but you don’t want him in the rotation long term.
