Why not give Jalen Beeks more of a chance in the rotation over someone like Brian Johnson? At this point, we know what Johnson is, but I feel as though there is real upside to Beeks. Maybe because the Red Sox have never lost a game started by Johnson ? He also probably has a higher ceiling anyways.

This umpire is terrible.

And then Johnson gets pitch #3 called a ball.

Anyone know what the deal with Blake Swihart is? Figured he'd get the start today. If he's not going to get into games with Vasquez out and Leon starting the last four, then what's he still doing on the roster?

Would like to see him behind the plate though. Cora says he trusts him back there. It's a Sunday get-away game with Johnson on the hill. Can't imagine a better scenario to start Swihart. What's the hesitation?

What's the hesitation? Leon is better and they want to win? Touche. You're going to have to start him eventually though. I imagine it would help them in the long run if they had a better idea of what Swihart was capable of when catching in real games, esp. as the deadline nears. It just seems like they're hesitating. Can't start Leon the rest of the year.

If Erod is already on the DL that is not a good sign.

If Erod is already on the DL that is not a good sign. Well that allowed them to activate Johnson. With the all star break, they can re-configure the rotation next weekend.

If Erod is already on the DL that is not a good sign. Not really with the AS break. It's an easy way to get another guy in the bullpen and he only has to miss 1 start.

Out on the shift. Since Boras isn’t Thornburg’s agent, he doesn’t like the shift.

Are the relief pitchers allergic to going multiple innings? I don't see how Workman couldn't have gone out for the 6th and saved Thornburg and company for the 7th.

I bet Pearce is happy to have a break coming up. I can't imagine how bruised his legs are/going to be.

Steve Pearce seems to get hit by pitches a lot.
32 hbp In 2300 PA. By comparison David Ortiz had 38 hbp in over 10,000 PA.

I just felt that after throwing 7 pitches and right before the All Star break, we could have used some more outs from him. Now Thornburg's already been in and we still have at least 3 innings to go.

From what I've heard/read, it's better to pitch 2 innings in one game than 1 inning in 2 different games. I'd guess that it's easier to warm up to begin another inning than it is to warm up from the bullpen and enter a game.
