Anyone think Theo and the Cubs might be getting nervous on Darvish? Its been an underwhelming first year for him to say the least. Half joking, but if the Red Sox want a starter with upside they need to get creative. DO NOT WANT.

I'd be more curious as to why you think this is a good idea. If Theo is nervous enough to dump him in a tight pennant race, what makes you think the Sox shouldn't be? Do you think Theo is an idiot ?

Theo makes mistakes. I mean, on one hand you're saying Theo isn't an idiot so if he moves him, he's bad, but ignoring the fact that he signed him in the first place and would be trying to get out out his contract after a half season. The Red Sox have nothing to give to get a high end arm like DeGrom. I'd rather a high upside guy like Darvish in a "go for it" year than a guy like Matt Harvey. If the Red Sox want arms they need to either eat a bad contract or get a 5th starter.

But I can't think of a worse idea than trading for him and anywhere close to his full salary. They already don't have the money for anyone else. Why would they waste $21M per year for 6 years instead of re-signing Bogaerts or someone else?

If the Red Sox want arms they need to either eat a bad contract or get a 5th starter. I mean, first off, it's not going to happen. There's a 0% chance of it happening. So there's that. But if we still want to talk about why this is a bad idea, yes it's true that the Cubs make mistakes. But in this particular scenario, they have a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge information advantage. They're the ones working with the pitcher, they know what he's going through, they've seen the medicals, MRIs, whatever else. If the Cubs want to trade him, that means you DON'T want to trade for him. It's like if your neighbor had his house inspected for termites and all of a sudden he's trying to sell it below market value. Say what you will about Matt Harvey, he is currently healthy. That carries a lot more weight for me in any in-season pitcher acquisition than theoretical upside does. Give me the guy who is actually taking the mound every fifth day, please.
