I think if everyone is healthy JD should be batting 3rd & playing 1B. The team still needs to acquire a LH bat to hit 4th & it probably won't happen until the off season so until then JD should be followed by Moreland/Pearce, Bogaerts, Devers, Kinsler, Catcher, JBJ.

I fully expect this team to reach the World Series and he absolutely needs to play 1B in the NL park.

What makes you think that after never playing 1b, JDM is suddenly going to put on a 1b glove, scoop any throws in the dirt or make even the basic plays that 1b with any experience at all make? You seem to discount the value of defense quite often in your posts.

JDM isn't going to be learning a new position at this point of the season. He absolutely needs to. I fully expect this team to reach the World Series and he absolutely needs to play 1B in the NL park. He's not going to play 1b in a NL ballpark. He'll play the corner OF where he's experienced and you'll be thrilled to know that JBJ will likely hit the bench in that scenario with Mookie moving over to CF. It takes more than 5 minutes to have a rudimentary knowledge of 1b. That's what spring training is for. Expecting that he's going to be able to play 1b going forward THIS season is very unrealistic. And you "fully expect" the Sox to reach the Series? They have a good shot, as good a shot as they've ever had, but it's hardly a given the way you make it sound.

I think he can do it.
If JBJ is on the active roster, he starts.
I think it's crazy in a world series game to replace JD's bat in a close game with JBJ's bat for defensive purposes. JD needs to stay in the game. He needs to learn 1B & I think he can do it.

No one is even thinking about the possibility because it's absurd to put more on him in the middle of a great season. What if he gets hurt diving in the infield?

Oh come on. What if he gets hurt diving for a ball in the outfield? Or slips in the shower or doing whatever...

I disagree with putting Martinez at first base. He should catch, the Red Sox could use a lot more offense out of the catcher position.

Oh come on. What if he gets hurt diving for a ball in the outfield? Or slips in the shower or doing whatever... Then he'll be doing what he's used to doing. He works his ass off every single day on his hitting. You want to take lots of time away from that to learn a new position for the possibility that he may have to play 3 games (or less) in an NL park in the WS? And this isn't Papi. He'd still be in the lineup if he isn't at 1B. Learning a new position is something that players do if they're blocked in AAA or in spring training.

This is similar to when we thought Hanley Ramirez can play Left Field. Just because they can catch a ball doesn't mean they can play a position. There is actually months or years of training to be serviceable at positions.

Big game tonight. They've only lost 3 in a row once, starting with the Manaea no-hitter (did that really happen?) and ending with Kimbrel giving up the walk-off bomb to Granderson after they'd tied it with 2 off of Osuna in the top of the 9th.
They've lost 3 of 5 for just the second time since June 24. The last time it happened, they had just gone 13-1, and after it happened, they went 15-2 ... which brings us up to the last 5 games. It would be great to start another roll like that.
And finally, of course, Eovaldi was brilliant his first two starts for us, terrible the third, and just OK the last time out. Right now it looks like Price is your #2 playoff starter, but who's 3 and 4 (and maybe 5, since there are scenarios where it makes sense to give Sale the extra rest--more about that later) is completely unclear at this point. On paper, it should be E-Rod and Eovaldi, but they have to do the job.

This Bieber guy is going to be hit tonight after they see him a bit.
edit - funny seeing Yandy and Yonder next to each other in the lineup. Yan is coming up soon.

Hell of a play by Moreland there, but I'm shocked they didn't review it.

see...the reason the third spot is not so valuable is because of what just happened. Best hitter came up with 2 outs and no one on in the first inning.

What a play by Moreland. As you can see 1st base isn't always easy.

By the way, Bieber is throwing a perfect game against the Red Sox. Can you believe that he's throwing a perfect game against the Red Sox? I can't believe that he's throwing a perfect game against the Red Sox. A perfect game.

Over Porcello ? Not for me. I want Rick taking the ball before either of those 2.
