Britton, Marrero and Henry sent to minor league camp (Britton optioned to AA). 57 players remain, including 17 NRIs.

Spring training stats don't mean anything, but... Iglesias has 4 extra base hits in 18 at bats this spring. For comparisons sake, he had 15 in 482 minor/major league plate appearance last year.
I know someone said his double the other day was a bit of a bloop. I'm curious about the two doubles today. Again, 18 at bats doesn't mean anything, especially in spring training, but it could certainly be interesting if he's gained some strength over the off-season.

Besides, there are a lot of us who just plain WANT it to be true! Every time Jose reaches base I have palpitations!!

Good to see Iglesias with two 2Bs today.

A hitter with no power can get 4 extra base hits at 18 bats?

In a vacuum it may make sense to play Jacoby in left, but would it be wise to start off JBjrs career or the 2013 season with all that hoopla surrounding such a thing? Even if Jaocoby says he's fine with it, which he won't be, there is no way the media doesn't make it a huge story. This team doesn't need to start 2013 like that; it's trying to change the aura surrounding the team. Farrell should focus on the defensive upgrade they gain by replacing Gomes and not make any other changes. Nothing to do with having stones; it's the smart way to go. I'm not so much concerned with the media in such a situation as I am with Ellsbury himself. As you noted, he won't be fine with it, just like he was unhappy in 2010. I'm pretty sure his experience in LF in 2010 signaled the end of his time there with Boston. While from a pure baseball perspective it makes sense to trot out a Ellsbury-Bradley-Victorino alignment (that would be pretty damn good outfield), I will say that I do want Jacoby in the best position to succeed this season. Bradley, like many top CF prospects when they come up (including Ellsbury), will likely see time at 2 or 3 outfield spots before settling on a permanent position in the lineup, ie. after Ellsbury departs (or gets injured). Bradley will be just fine in a corner, and I don't see it causing any real issues with his development. His time as a fixture in center field for us will come soon enough. This all being said, my moneys on Ortiz being in the lineup opening day, with Bradley in the minors and Gomes and Nava or Carp platooning in LF. Even if he is DL'd, I bet they'll start the season with a DH/LF rotation of Gomes, Nava, and Carp.

You bring up a good point. I believe they'd use the time to get an extended look at Carp to give him the best chance to succeed.
On another note, I know there is a lt of time left but I suspecting Bards ticket to AAA is punched IF health, performance and behavior of the other bullpen arms cause a numbers crunch. It's going to be hard for Bard to prove he has it all together.

I hope it's an isolated incident and not a peek into why he's struggled so much despite his incredible talent.

Not good. At a minimum, let's hope he loses his license.

Wow, 111mph that's impressive , drunk or not. I simply didn't know that Britton was capable of that kind of Velocity.

Hopefully it's an earlier, rather than later, opportunity to get him the help that he needs. Drunk driving 111mph in 45mph zone is just plain scary.

From ESPN Boston:
The arrest occurred at 4:42 a.m. Saturday, on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Estero, which is adjacent to Fort Myers. According to the arrest report, Britton, who was driving a 2008 black Chevrolet Silverado (a pickup truck), was paced at a maximum speed of 111 miles an hour in a 45 m.p.h. zone. With a police car in pursuit, Britton's truck swerved in between other moving vehicles and jumped over a curb, continuing down a small decline and knocking down a barbed-wire fence, according to the police report. Britton then continued down a dirt road for a quarter of a mile and attempted to pull into a wooded area before coming to a stop. When the officer approached and asked for his license, Britton first handed him his debit card.

It'll be interesting to see what, if any, punishment Britton receives. Smoking pot gets you a 50 game ban, but putting lives at risk while driving intoxicated gets you what??

I hope he blames it on a Yankees fan heckling him at a bar.
Also; sammo420, really? Let's hope the next time you smoke pot (420 is clever, eh?) you get kicked out of your home and fired. People make mistakes sometimes.
Did you know David Wells threw a perfect game while drunk?

He made a mistake. No judge on him or his character unless he does it again, or does something similar like fail a drug test or whatever
Obviously he/anyone else should know better, but sometimes people make a mistake. It's how they respond that truly characterizes them.
I do wonder what type of MLB punishment he gets. It seems like DUI's don't get nearly the punishment they probably should.

I'd hope that the team is willing to work with anyone who has this sort of problem. We need to remember that these guys are quite young, and that much of their day-to-day lives have been focused, very narrowly, on competition and making their way in an environment that can be pressure-packed at best, and downright cruel at worst. He's got time to pick a different escape valve. Lets hope he does.

Some things transcend work, sports etc. There's a legal element within and without the sport, but there is also a life element. He needs assistance, and my guess is the Sox are an organisation that will see to it he gets the assistance.

I get that people make mistakes, but there are mistakes and then there are MISTAKES - and this one could have easily killed somebody.
I know he's a "young kid", but he's old enough to know better. He's damn lucky he didn't kill somebody.
He'll get a second chance, but if I'm the Red Sox, I wouldn't even want this kid taking another drink again, because apparently he cannot handle the responsibility that goes with it. And if he does, get rid of him.

And if he does, get rid of him. Beyond the issue of personal responsibility, which is serious enough, there is the issue of professional responsibility. If he had done this during the offseason, during holiday/party season, that's one thing. But pulling something like this during ST, when he's by definition supposed to be trying to make the best impression on his employers? Beyond being dangerous and raising questions about his personal makeup, it's just plain dumb.
