Well if the bar is Gary Sanchez, then yeah anyone can look league average. The bar is not Gary Sanchez. The bar is average. 0 runs above or below average. Why is this so hard for you to understand? He was 14th of 117 defensively including arm, framing and blocking. That's a good defensive catcher regardless of the number of times you jump on here to bash him when he makes a bad play. You aren't noticing the rest of his plays. That's why we look at data - to remove bias. This is data by BP, which IMO is the best measure of catcher defense. If you want to come up with some new defensive metrics that see Vazquez how you want to see him, feel free. Otherwise, just accept that you're wrong. It's ok. I knew Vazquez was a good framer and has a good arm. He's not good at blocking balls in the dirt. You went from above average to league average in the same conversation. This chart did nothing but comfirm what I have thought of Vazquez all along. He does nothing to block balls in the dirt. Being a zero isn't above average by no standard of measure. Sorry you can't and won't convince me of that.

Sorry you can't and won't convince me of that. 0 is average on BP's scale. 0.1 is above 0.0. How did you do in math in school? The way you talk about Vazquez' blocking is that he's like Sanchez but he's clearly not by any standard. You even replied to FWTH with a comment that he should watch the games after saying he was a pretty good defensive catcher.

We have far more problems than Vazquez. We have a continually ineffective Sale and a rather impotent offense.

Tzu Wei Lin needs to be the starting 2B sooner rather than later, as much as I love Pedroia is not a statement i thought I would ever make.
Also, great AB Xander!

they aint got it. What ever "it" they had last year they lost.
They're yet to just play a fully solid game. Crazy.

My feeling...we are a great team playing poor baseball. And...things even out. Tons of good breaks last season are not falling the same way this year so far.

This team is very frustrating. It seems that whenever they score they don't shut the opposition down the next inning which is a problem.

My feeling...we are a great team playing poor baseball. And...things even out. Tons of good breaks last season are not falling the same way this year so far. Well, mlb stats rates us 14th in batting, 27th in pitching and 25th in fielding. That translates quite well to our near worst record in baseball. Game after game I watch the other team out hit and out pitch us. I don't think we can blame it on bad luck. And at some point, as the saying goes, comes the realization that you are what your record says you are.

It would be really nice if the Sox could actually do something very clutch here.
