Chavis is already better than Nunez in every way Agreed and DD and co. have to recognize that by now On the one hand, it's kind of ridiculous to say that about a guy just because he hit a couple dingers in a week... but on the other, Eduardo Nunez...

We’re not far away from having four HRs tonight. Several of these balls have been destroyed.

Even if Chavis regresses pretty hard, it's hard to imagine he (or most players) could be worse than Nunez as an overall player

Cut Nunez now A healthy PEdey is only the cherry

I appreciate Cora not giving up on Brewer but please let it be a short leash.

If the Red Sox make it to the postseason, how much of that is due to Michael Chavis being awesome? Like 90%?

Ok,...can we now admit that Vazquez is an offensive Stud...? Seriously this guy is coming around with the bat..Not a rollover! He was at .195 / .233 / .415 (43 PA, 55 wRC+) when they switched back to Leon.
Since then, .273 / .320 / .545 (25 PA, 117 wRC+).
Of the 30 C in MLB with the most PA, he's 4th in Iso, and there's no one with a higher Iso and lower K rate. That captures his offensive skill set perfectly: surprising bat-to-ball skills and surprising pop.
Eric, I’m still not remotely sold (tho I do recall that one 20-hr season he had way back when in the minors), but I do think you describe his skill subset. I think he should walk a little more and he’s definitely a better hitter than he showed last year. I was trying to trade him all along, so I’d be ecstatic if he could prove me wrong. FWIW, the pop/contact skill set does seem to be one that lends itself to a late-20s power boost, so we’ll see. I’ll peek at savant once he’s got a few more PAs. His defense certainly seems to be improved (arm in particular) vs last year, but that’s strictly eyeballing it.

Watching Absentia with one eye, the Sox with another....and the Bruins with - no, not a third eye - but lots of juggling of my attention.
Delighted with the Sox victory - improved hitting, more timely hitting, improved starting pitching, and a good pen - and a Bruins OT win...gotta love it!
We are creeping up the standings.

I’m irrationally overjoyed with his IsoP bump and IsoD bump this year (both AAA and continuing in MLB) despite a better k rate. He’s also had stinkin’ BABIP luck (despite hard contact and an up-the-middle approach), and has produced nonetheless. And he looks ok at 2b!! I’m sold on him becoming a first-division Dan Uggla. I love seeing him get these starts because he really doesn’t have any business anymore in AAA, and the Sox have zero better overall options at 2b (tho I still like Lin a fair bit).

Chavis has 2 barrels of 10 batted balls and an average EV of 96 mph. I’m gonna go ahead and guess he barreled that HR today too. His LA is about what I’d expect (13 degrees...he’s always been more liner than FB hitter). And his sprint speed indicates the “40” on his run tool is way too low...he’s more like a 60 run (he’s around 75th %ile, or 1 SD above the mean, tho his first step isn’t great, so maybe call it a 50-55). I think the 60 raw is low, too...more like a 70, but the game power prob won’t approach that without more elevation. Still, it’s not like he’s been stupidly hot...his xBA is .280 and his xSLG is right in line with his actual SLG. He’s shown a better-than-expected eye, too. The SS is obviously tiny. But I still love seeing the barrel%, EV (96!), speed, and 50% hard-hit. He’s been developing as a hitter all along, but having the raw data gets me even more excited about him possibly being *underrated* in terms of his tools, and FV. If he can become an average 2b defensively, he’s gonna be a helluva valuable player. baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/michael-chavis-656308?stats=career-r-hitting-mlb
