Or is it possible JH finally talked Billy Beane into coming east? Less than 5% chance IMHO, but would be...wild.

Can someone amend the OT and add at the bottom all the likely corresponding moves with a blurb as to what they're expected to bring to the future of this club?
From what I'm gathering from this thread, they're getting the international scouting director from the Mets to take on the same role here and he's suppose to be really good? Is Romero now going to be the GM of the future? Why is he so awesome? What are they looking for him to do that they didn't believe Dombrowski could bring?

So is this Romero’s gig now, or is it a three headed GM situation until the end of the season then open up a search? Looks like tmulti-headed, stay the course for next couple weks and then interviews. JH may have someone in mind or he may pick from what’s available internally.

Because, screw him for only winning 3 AL East titles and a ring in his 4 years here. Classless.

On timing, it's probably a situation where they want to start the search for his replacement now so he's in place for the start of the offseason. That's really the important time period here. Firing him in October and installing someone in November after a full search could've had devastating repercussions on putting them behind the 8 ball on retooling for 2020 and setting a long-term plan in place. Excellent point. That thought hadn't even crossed my mind. That's why I like posting here. I can learn a lot.

I had thought Henry might reach out to Theo again as his deal expires after 2020 I think (now that Kennedy is in place of Lucchino), but the timing of this certainly doesn't work. As Pedro said, Friedman would be really interesting although I'd be surprised if the Dodgers let him walk away.

I'm not sure if I'm sold on Friedman. He ran the Rays well, but he had/has no idea how to spend money wisely. He's a lot like Ben Cherrington in that regard.

I understand the rationale of moving on from Dombrowski due to the circumstances of the org. changing and him not necessarily being the best guy for the next phase. Some different perspective/creativity needed.
Thank you to Dombrowski for doing exactly what he was brought here to do!

LOL. Me and my mother knew Mookie Betts wasn't going to get resigned. Conflict of interests is at stake here. That's why Dombrowski got fired or whatever. My bottom line theory, but no one believes Pedrofan. Whatever, man. That's all I got to say. EXPECT MOOKIE TO GET TRADED. I've been arguing it ad nauseam on this forum and now it's happening (due to organizational direction/GM change/not wanting to pay bottom dollar). Surprised. Shocked. Whatever. (Not really). Yeah, I don't expect Dombrowski to reasonably attach his name to what is about to be expected to happen this off-season, because in a win now mode, it isn't what you expect to be done (the Mookie Betts' trade). Plain and simple. The world may come to an end and I may live to regret saying it - but I tend to agree with Pedrofan on this one. I think this move was more about the future than the past. First off, what to do with Mookie may be the organization's biggest financial decision ever. Whatever they do I don't think the team wants DD making that decision, because I think the organization is terrified of Mookie becoming Boston's Miguel Cabrera. There's also going to be a lot of decisions that need to be made about prospects next year where a GM with a more value-based approach that has a better appreciation of roster spots 20-25 may be more appropriate for the role. Second, I wouldn't rule out this being a mutual decision of sorts. DD is a bit old. If this is a transition period in the organization then DD may not want to commit to seeing the transition through, especially if he doesn't agree with the vision. If DD and ownership don't share a vision for the team then it's not surprising that they would go their separate ways. In fact, it's probably best for both if that's the case. Yeah just to add on in regards to Mookie and Miguel Cabrera- The Sox (John Henry) doesn't want a player clogging up that much of a percentage of the payroll in Mookie or whoever. They'd rather spread the money around and not spend top dollar on one player. Henry has had this approach since he got here. Dombrowski probably doesn't probably agree with THAT approach either and doesn't have full control over that, so it was probably the dozens of reasons of the mutual decisions to part ways, even though the labeling of firing came attached to it.

I do think Alex Cora and his coaching staff are good to stay for multiple years.
Cora made a lot of mistakes this year. Being too arrogant and not having a spring training for the pitching staff being one of them. Being a little obssesed with the platoon splits for a while there. I think he's done as good of a job as expected, regardless.
He can handle the pressure of this market. He's a cool, calm, and collected guy. The player's love him. I don't expect him to have any amount of a hot seat attached to him for a while. At least that part of the GM will come easy for the next guy.

Or is it possible JH finally talked Billy Beane into coming east? Less than 5% chance IMHO, but would be...wild. Billy Beane might be the best GM in the business. Every single one of his rebuilds with Oakland has literally lasted a year or two before Oakland was competitive with a small payroll. If Henry can get THAT guy to finally come, then I'll be doing cartwheels. The only reason why Billy Beane hasn't won anything is because of payroll IMO. You got to have some form of it. Oakland doesn't have that at all.

As I have said in the past the right move was to move on from DD, but this was handled very poorly. DD was exactly what the sox needed at the time and was one of the greatest GMs in team history. With that said his time here was coming to an end. HOWEVER the sox handling of this feels really sleazy, DD deserves better than this. Unless was DD having an affair with Henrys wife the way DD was let go was complete BS and very disheartening.

You got to have the ability to spend in MLB or your margin for error is ZERO.

I wanted them to go to Hernandez earlier. In the bullpen. The problem with the pen was not enough swing and miss guys. I felt they had two answers Hernandez and Houck. They kept waiting on Hernandez and never gave Houck a chance. You can see guys like Barnes are great but overused. Workman was good too but when I watched the good hitters would always foul off there great pitches. It must be aggravating.
That answers the question with the salary when you have cost controlled options.
I guess the Sox wanted to give them a chance to start and kept at it. I don’t feel it’s a negative to have talent in the bullpen .

Oakland doesn't have that at all. How many titles has he won? How many world series has he made? My vote is for Romero I think Pedro made his point as to why he hasn't won. To extrapolate from that, since 2012 here is where Oakland has ranked in payroll: 2012 - 29th 2013 - 27th 2014 - 25th 2015 - 27th 2016 - 27th 2017 - 27th 2018 - 30th 2019 - 25th Their opening day payroll this year is $84,345,833 with an average of $6,972,500. By comparison, the Red Sox (who were first) is $187,232,500 with an average of $15,689,000. Chris Sale, David Price and Nathan Eovadi will cost the Red Sox 72 million next year. I doubt that he is operating with these financial restrictions of his own volition.

I am happy with either Eddie Romero or Don Orsillo being the GM.
There are probably a half-dozen others I'd be content with. Beane is among them.

I really think this is it. DD has an autocratic style. Perhaps other voices were being stifled as a chasm was being created between DD, Wren, and LaRussa versus the other voices in the organization. This dovetails with what Shaughnessy wrote and he is connected within the organization. I do wish they would hold a press conference, but what are they going to say? People weren't getting along well enough to have a cohesive organization? That will come through back channels as I'm sure more comes out.

There is absolutely not another Don Orsillo, I think we've established that completely.

It was pretty clear when Hazen wanted out that DD was the autocratic type. Maybe they could have handled it better, but I think moving on makes sense at this juncture. I’m curious to see who they bring in and what transpires this offseason, because it does seem like major changes are coming.
Beane would be amazing, but he has the most secure job in the sport and Boston’s GM role has been the least secure, so I have a hard time seeing how Henry could sweeten the pot enough to get him interested.

Yeah, if you have to show him to the door for the sake of the future, so be it, but there was a way to do it while still respecting and celebrating what he accomplished here from 2016-18 rather than just making him look like a scapegoat being punished for this season, which is what they're doing. I'm sure there's a lot more to the story to be told, but the way they've handled it so far is just a bad look.
