Guys we didn't care about, last two years: Chris Murphy, Thad Ward, Jarren Duran. Free your minds and admit we don't know jack about these guys, my friends. It's so much more freeing! I love 'ya, Chris and you run a great site. But your own site's evaluation of the two P's you named concludes they have the ceiling of a back-end starters if they continue to improve. What org doesn't have potential back-end SP candidates? I was hoping for a potential impact SP in this draft. The Phils screwed us by taking Abel. I don't think the RS would have passed on him. Someone upthread pointed out that you don't draft for need. I get that. But I also think it's important for the organization to break this long dry spell of not drafting/internationally signing and then developing an impact SP. Signing SP on the FA market is terribly inefficient. Invariably, you're going to end up with some major sunk costs. We're on the hook for $60 million/year for Sale, Price and Eovoldi. If there's a 2021 season and Eo matches his best season, we'll get a grand total of 2.3 WAR, plus whatever little Sale is able to contribute in two months or so of pitching, for that $60 million. Nobody drafted this year would likely impact the Sox rotation in the foreseeable future. That said, we need some baseball to be played this year to reset the tax clock.

So far we have Thom Yorke, Just Blaze, and Wu-Tang Clan. Guesses on artist we can use for nickname of the 5th rounder?

I hope they can save this much on Jorden too. Otherwise, they could’ve gotten Sabato in the first round who has as much power, a much better hit tool and as just little mobility as this guy. Dude what are you even talking about. Slot at the pick is $667,900. This is hyperbole - but only a little. Jordan is a showcase guy with a single tool. Sorry but this feels like 2009 all over again, only with less quality.

Chris Ian, making intellectual counter points to pisssed off fans is your right and that’s why we love you. But what is your honest initial reaction to this draft beside, well let’s wait and see and teams don’t draft for need?

Alright, like this one a lot. College guy with upside, got off to a good start this spring so could've had more helium, two potential plus pitches and an improving changeup which we know the Sox like to tweak with? I think if the Sox switched fourth and fifth round picks a lot of people would be more content, this guy looks on paper to be a really nice lottery ticket for the fifth round.

If there is one thing to take from this draft, its that Bloom's got some sneaky style with the Red Sox sweater there.

If they get him to throw strikes it looks like he could be a very high quality prospect

I like this pick! Two interesting lefties to round it out. I like both of their deliveries a lot. Very clean looking.

27 k’s but 11 walks in 17-2/3 innings in this abbreviated season. Seems like there is some upside with him but not a lot of great results in college. Would have Preferred Mason Erla who was ranked a little higher and was lights out this spring while sitting 93-96 but at least it wasn’t a punt

He's a college kid, so there's probably not a lot of room for growth in his velo. If he sits 92-93, as the BBN just said, he'll have to be have great location. 92-93 in the middle of the zone goes out the other way. Still, probably as good as we could have hoped for in the 5th round.
