Royals/Mets Prospect Watch

The "below 10" prospect is coming from the Mets, not the Royals. Are you sure you don’t have that mixed around? We are getting two prospects from royals. They already gave up a top 5-6 guy in Lee. So we are getting another player above 10? I understood it as the prospects were below 10 and would all rank below 10 for us. Either way will be interesting to see the end result. Maybe I just understood the trade wrong

The only reporting out there is from Speier who said the Mets PTBNL won't be a top ten type and Gammons who said that the PTBNLs in general will be lower level prospects.
On the Royals PTBNL, I just don't see how the Royals would give up more significant pieces on top of Cordero and Lee. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

Yeah I definitely have never seen that said about last 2 Kansas City prospects. Just that they would be after 10. Maybe I missed something? If I did well that’s eliminating some of players I hoped for. We shall see.

Personally, I've been hoping for guys in the 25-35 range (which would be roughly the bottom half of the Royals' 40 FV ranks). Anything above that would surprise me, though anything below that would not.

The Sox included $ in the deal allegedly to increase the quality of prospects returned. But I never thought much of Cordero either so I always assumed that the Sox benefit from the trade would be all in the prospects. I am still hoping for Alec Marsh and Ben Hernandez from KCR and Dominguez from NYM.

I got Junior Santos' statcast data from his debut tonight: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. 7 balls in play, 1 hard hit ball. Sat 94, topped out at 96.6. His fastball is a sinker, has a ton of run, and he was throwing it at the top of the zone tonight. 29 swings, 11 whiffs. Not a big spin guy on his pitches, at least night tonight. Held his velo well for his 55 ptiches. Roughly 10 curves, 10 sliders, 1 changeup. For such a huge guy, very tight release point discipline. Start #2 on the season: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K He won't turn 20 until August. If he's on the Red Sox' list, he might be the guy.

What you're saying makes sense, but it's a little like saying after the Red Sox gave up Travis Shaw and hard-throwing (98) Josh Pennington for Tyler Thornburg, why would they be willing to add Maurico Dubon?

Weekly check in on top Mets and Royals prospects
Mets #19 prospect 2B/OF Carlos Cortes: 7/21, 4 2B, 2 BB, 4 K. Season Line: .275/.362/.393/.732 5 2B, 6 BB, 10 K
Mets #23 prospect SP Tylor Megill: 2 GS, 11 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 12 K. Season Line: 3 GS, 16 IP, 4 BB, 22 K, 1.13 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, .148 BAA
Megill is a guy I tagged at the beginning of the year as a Seabold type riser and he's absolutely showed that in his first three starts in AA this year. The way that he is looking, I wouldn't mind at all if he was the PTBNL from the Mets trade.
Mets #10 prospect SP Junior Santos: 1 GS, 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K. Season Line: 2 GS, 7.0 IP, 3 BB, 9 K, 1.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, .192 BAA
AA SS Yoel Romero (23 yo): 7/15, 3 2B, 3 BB, 2K. Season Line: .476/.577/.619/1.196, 3 2B, 4 BB, 3 K

Royals Weekly Review:
AAA C Meibrys Viloria (24 yo): 7/13, 2B, HR, 3 BB, 4 K, CS. Season Line: .379/.455/.527/.972, 2B, HR, 3 BB, 13 K
A SS Maikel Garcia (21 yo): 7/17, 2B, 6 BB, 3 K. Season Line: .314/.457/.371/.828, 2 2B, 20 BB, 8 K
#29 prospect LHP Angel Zerpa: 2 GS, 9.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 14 K. Season Line: 3 GS, 14.2 IP, 3 BB, 21 K, 3.07 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, .200 BAA
Royals prospects are so much harder to look at because there's a much wider range of player that can be coming back from them.

Junior Santos went 4 IP, 5 H, 6 R (4 ER), 1 BB, 2 HBP, 3 K piggy backing on Syndergaard's rehab start for St. Lucie this afternoon. Cruised in his 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings but had a tough time in his second inning.

Interesting ranking here. Marsh is as high as #4 on their list. In others he was #15-#25. Still hoping we have a shot at him, but it shows the huge variance I believe prospects will be this year between nov and say july ( because of the shutdown)

Tough week for Mets prospects. their top pitching prospect Matthew Allan needs Tommy John Surgery and then a day later it was announced that someone almost universally regarded as in their top 5-7 prospects, outfielder Peter Crow Armstrong, needs shoulder surgery and is likely out for the year. now I assume the Sox and Mets exchanged names months ago, and those names are still what is in play. I further assume that these two prospects were essentially protected by the Mets. Given the severity of the injuries, is it worth the time for the Sox to check in on these two, with maybe a reasonable chance they get a yes on PCA, who will essentially be out of competitive baseball for 2 years after this injury?

Junior Santos has been blessed by DeGrom Holy smokes... If that's Junior, how big is Senior? At least if the whole baseball thing doesn't work out, the kid can go play power forward or something.

“ Rookie Khalil Lee picked a pivotal time to finally put a ball in play.
Lee hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the 12th inning for his first career hit after strikeouts in his first eight [mlb] plate appearances — a major league record”

Standouts from the Mets system from the past week.
#10 prospect Thomas Szapucki (AAA) Week Line: 1 start, 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K Season Line: 3 G (2 starts), 13 IP, 13 H, 4 ER, 15 K, 5 BB
#17 Jose Butto (A) Week Line: 2 starts, 10.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 8 K, 1 BB Season Line: 4 starts, 18.1 IP, 19 K, 7 BB, 3.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, .188 BAA
#23 Tylor Megill (AA) Week Line: 1 start, 5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 11 K, 1 BB Season Line: 4 starts, 21.2 IP, 33 K, 5 BB, 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, .195 BAA I really, really hope that Megill is on the list of potential prospects from the Mets. He's a pitcher that improved a lot over the lost year and will shoot up their prospect list at mid-year if he keeps up what he's doing now.

Standouts for the Royals system this past week
#22 prospect Tyler Gentry Week Line: 7-15, 3 2B, 1 HR, 3 BB, 4 K, SB Season Line: .275/.406/.431/.838, 5 2B, 1 HR, 9 BB, 23 K, 3-3 SB
A+ pitcher Drew Parrish Week Line: 2 G (1 GS), 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 12 K, 0 BB Season Line: 4 G (1 GS), 15.2 IP, 5 H, 23 K, 3 BB, 0.00 ERA, 0.51 WHIP, .096 BAA Interesting year for this guy. 23 year old, 2019 8th rounder from Florida State. Looks like they started him as a reliever and no one could do anything against him so they gave him a start and still no one could do anything against him. Impressive numbers and about age appropriate for the level.
A pitcher Matt Stil Week Line: 2 G (1 GS), 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 12 K Season Line: 4 G (2 GS), 12.2 IP, 9 BB, 22 K, 4.26 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, .159 BAA 20 years old. 21st round pick in 2019 out of high school. Good strikeout numbers and not a lot of hits against him.
Rough week for the Royals system.
